Worth to stay but too many choices in Chiang Mai

Posted 04-Jul-2016
Stayed only one night at Empress. The hotel conditional was well maintained than expected that i didn’t notice it has been running over 20 years. The request i made on booking was fulfilled. The deluxe room was nice that even better than their photos on website. Personally not prefer the small statue they put in the room. A nice fruit platter and a small snack bag were complement in the room. The a/c was strong but we turned the direction other way round then was fine. The king size bed was comfortable. Breakfast buffet was standard and enough for a good day start. The price I booked was really worth. Only the reception staff were acting cold and not hospitality as a kind of hotel representative.

Pros: Everything!
Great hotel, AMAZING staff. Paul W. the assistant front office manager was fantastic and helped us book not only a driver for the day when we wanted to tour around outside the city, but also helped us book our transportation to Koh Samui after our stay. Everyone here was delightful, the breakfast buffet was plentiful and they even gave us a lovely bag of chocolates, chips and crackers! We also received adorable little wooden elephant keychains during our first breakfast. The tuk tuk drivers down the lane were hilarious and fun, so polite and helpful. Loved everything about this hotel and would highly recommend it and would definitely stay again! Chiang Mai is our favourite so far and The Empress was part of the reason!

The Empress hotel, great value!

Pros: Location and the beautiful lobby.
Location: There is a museum very close by. I heard there is also a night market, but we did not go.
Wow! Everything about this hotel was perfect! From the time we came in at 10AM and were given a room with an upgrade. I had booked a deluxe room with breakfast. I do not really know what the upgrade was, but it did not matter as we were given a beautiful room in the 19th floor. The front desk clerk was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The room and the bathroom were clean and spacious. The king size bed was a bit firm but very comfortable. The AC worked great too! They gave us two complimentary bottles of water a day. We were nicely surprised in the early afternoon when a hotel employee showed up with a plate of fresh local fruits, compliments of the hotel for being first time visitors to Chiang Mai. Then, later in the evening another employee showed up with a small tote bag filled with goodies and some tags saying welcome to Chiang Mai. Boy, talk about being classy! We were very impressed! The breakfast buffet was amazing! They had an omelette bar, breads, pastries, coffee, etc. and also some Asian dishes as well. This was our favorite stay during our trip to Thailand. The hotel is located very close to a museum and there were street food vendors in the main street. We wished we had booked another two nights when we returned to Chiang Mai from our scheduled tour to Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. This hotel is definitely one that I would stay again and again. We also ate at their restaurant the afternoon we arrived and the service was very good.

Prettige ligging

Prettige ligging, zeer vriendelijk personeel, zeer uitgebreid ontbijt buffet. Zeer gastvrij! Wel iets verouderd. Geweldig uitzicht over de stad

Great staff great old worlde charm

Pros: Everything
Cons: Make sure people know that the tour and taxi desks are run by people who rent the space. Information at the front is the best way to go
Location: Night markets a short walk
This was a fantastic experience with staff providing superb service. Women received a long stem rose each evening in the lobby lounge. A free 5 course meal was provided during the stay of 7 days and airport transfers were complimentary.
