Cardiff Airport is the closest major airport for flights to Carmarthen. Located 67 miles to the south in Rhoose it is connected to Carmarthen by a regular train service that runs via Bridgend, or a bus service via Cardiff and Swansea.

When to Fly to Carmarthen
If you are visiting Carmarthen to soak yourself in its history or to enjoy its wide range of shops and restaurants then it really doesn’t matter what time of year you visit. However, there are certain times of the year when the town really springs to life. The Merlin Festival is held in August, and celebrates the town’s links with the world’s most famous wizard.
Visit in October if you’d like to attend the Carmarthen Beer Festival, which offers over 40 real ales as well as country wines, cider and perry. Or if you enjoy messing about on the river, the Carmarthen River Festival takes place in June.
Getting to Carmarthen After Your Flight
From Cardiff Airport a shuttle bus service runs to the nearest rail station, Rhoose Cardiff International Airport, which is on the Vale of Glamorgan line. You can catch a train to Bridgend station from here, from where you can take another train the rest of the way to Carmarthen.
To get to Carmarthen from the airport by bus, you will need to travel first to Cardiff, get another bus to Swansea, and finally get a bus from Swansea to Carmarthen.
By far the quickest and easiest way to get from the airport to Carmarthen is by car, and this journey should take less than an hour and a half. You can reach the M4 motorway, which is about 10 miles from the airport, by travelling along the A4226 and A48. At the end of the motorway rejoin the A48, which will take you the rest of the way into Carmarthen.
Make life easy for yourself by arranging a car rental with Expedia beforehand, and get to Carmarthen as soon as possible after your flight touches down. Renting a car will also enable you to really explore the Welsh countryside during your stay.
