very disappointing

Posted 17-Jun-2016
Staff - surly, not welcoming at all, very little information about the place and its facilities on checking. Original room - 300 metres walk away in the lodge with no parking available, replacement room; TV didn't work, 1 set of towels and very dark lighting. Considering it was such a lovely looking place, my experience overall was very disappointing!

Disappointing - a hotel with untapped potential

Posted 12-Jun-2016
Pros: The staff, the location and the grounds.
Cons: The rooms and marketing - I felt "hoodwinked" by the pretty pictures shown to me and stunning bedrooms only to be placed in an ugly, tatty building.
Location: Good for M25 and reasonable for Gatwick
We were attracted to the hotel by the stunning photo shown on Expedia during a promotion. We booked the hotel for just one night before a romantic getaway to Prague. We got a terrific deal and as a result we weren't expecting a suite or an upgrade but were still very disappointed when, rather than having a room in the main hotel (a gorgeous old building with immense character), that we had been led to believe we would have stayed in (judging by the photos), we were instead placed in an ante-building that was reminiscent of a 70's pre-fab school classroom. It was old, with tatty carpet and so worn down looking. The room itself was very small but thankfully nicer than the exterior may have indicated. A sparse but clean and efficient bathroom and good ac made for a nice night's sleep. The service was excellent as were the evening snacks we had. The grounds are stunning and the hotel is beautifully situated. There were rabbits (and a fox!) in the grounds and the sunset was lovely. That said, the hotel was vaguely reminiscent of Fawlty Towers - very few staff (though all lovely), and the hotel itself was all rather odd and unhinged. I understand it is a great conference venue and a popular place for weddings but we were told by a staff member it doesn't really focus on the overnight guest. It is a shame because the potential for the hotel is immense.

Piped music problem.

Posted 17-Apr-2016
Cons: Dreadful piped music everywhere, even in the quiet lounges. Couldn't get away from it.
Piped music problem. Expedia seems reluctant to publish this.

Very comfortable stay

Posted 07-Apr-2016
We stayed for two nights on a bed and breakfast deal, which was cheaper than 'budget hotels' in the area. The room was large and had all the facilities you would expect - kettle, TV, hairdryer - and an iron and ironing board, the bed was large and comfortable, and the bathroom clean and modern. All the staff we encountered were pleasant, polite and helpful, and the breakfast had plenty of choice. The hotel has extensive grounds and adequate parking.

BONITO Y ROMANTICO EN PLENA CAMPIÑA

Posted 15-Mar-2016
Pros: EL AMBIENTE BUCOLICO GENERAL
Cons: DEMASIADO CALOR EN LAS HABITACIONES
Location: ES DIFICIL ACCEDER AL HOTEL SI NO SE TIENE AUTOMOVIL. LAS INMEDIACIONES TIENEN MULTIPLES ACTIVIDADES. ES TODO MUY TIPICO DE LA CAMPIÑA INGLESA
LA PENA ES QUE NO PUDIMOS DISFRUTAR DEL EDIFICIO PRINCIPAL. UNA MANSION SEÑORIAL DE PIEDRA, CON EXCELENTES SALONES. NUESTRA HABITACION ERA AMPLIA CON UN GRAN BAÑO, MUCHA LUZ Y VISTAS A LOS JARDINES. TODA LA FINCA ES UN REMANSO DE PAZ Y DE TRANQUILIDAD.

Not what we paid for

Posted 01-Mar-2016
Cons: Give people what they paid for if advertised price is for a room in y phone the cottage down the road don't show pictures of the Manor
Really ticked off, booked and paid for this back in August, going off lovely photos etc. Get here tonight after traveling for over 24hrs to be told staying in some cottage down the road and having to climb narrow stairs. I could have booked a cottage for half the price l paid for this.
