They did not have us stay in the manor but a random building on the side with NO character. Very disappointing

My Review

Great staff. Great Building. Lovely large room and bed but ... Small TV placed off sight view. Basic and inadequate toiletries for this grade of hotel. Room service but no robes??? Bathroom lighting inadequate to put on make up or shave.

very disappointing

Staff - surly, not welcoming at all, very little information about the place and its facilities on checking. Original room - 300 metres walk away in the lodge with no parking available, replacement room; TV didn't work, 1 set of towels and very dark lighting. Considering it was such a lovely looking place, my experience overall was very disappointing!

Disappointing - a hotel with untapped potential

Posted 12-Jun-2016
Pros: The staff, the location and the grounds.
Cons: The rooms and marketing - I felt "hoodwinked" by the pretty pictures shown to me and stunning bedrooms only to be placed in an ugly, tatty building.
Location: Good for M25 and reasonable for Gatwick
We were attracted to the hotel by the stunning photo shown on Expedia during a promotion. We booked the hotel for just one night before a romantic getaway to Prague. We got a terrific deal and as a result we weren't expecting a suite or an upgrade but were still very disappointed when, rather than having a room in the main hotel (a gorgeous old building with immense character), that we had been led to believe we would have stayed in (judging by the photos), we were instead placed in an ante-building that was reminiscent of a 70's pre-fab school classroom. It was old, with tatty carpet and so worn down looking. The room itself was very small but thankfully nicer than the exterior may have indicated. A sparse but clean and efficient bathroom and good ac made for a nice night's sleep. The service was excellent as were the evening snacks we had. The grounds are stunning and the hotel is beautifully situated. There were rabbits (and a fox!) in the grounds and the sunset was lovely. That said, the hotel was vaguely reminiscent of Fawlty Towers - very few staff (though all lovely), and the hotel itself was all rather odd and unhinged. I understand it is a great conference venue and a popular place for weddings but we were told by a staff member it doesn't really focus on the overnight guest. It is a shame because the potential for the hotel is immense.

Nice but basic

Only stayed the one night between flights from Gatwick. Location is beautiful and there's 2 lovely pubs down the road, and the main building is lovely. Staff very friendly. rooms let it down a bit- clean and functional but basic, travelodge style.

Nice hotel shame we were in the lodge 5mins away

Posted 26-May-2016 on Hotels
The hotel itself was nice and the room was spacious enough and clean. It is definitley more geared towards conferences as at breakfast we felt surrounded by business people arriving or having breakfast before their conferences. We also felt disappointed that we were placed in the lodge at the end of the drive way, this is a 5min walk away from the main building and did make us feel like second rate guests. They should make it clear when you book which part of their building you will be in as it isn't nice having to walk up the drive with cars going past you (the same business colleagues turning up) and also if it is raining as it was when we stayed. It suited us ok as we were only there for one night but would have been very disappointing if we had been there for any longer.

Poor menu selection.

stayed here as working in the area for couple of weeks. Hotel it self was fine, room was adequate. Evening menu was very disappointing if staying for more than 2 nights ( not much of a selection). decided to alter booking to stay elsewhere.

Not too bad, could do better

Fairly mixed review, some staff really helpful others not at all. Price of soft drinks was more expensive than alcohol! My room was on the second floor and ridiculously hot even with the windows left open all day. Limited selection of food in the restaurant and bar for the price.
