Decent hotel in the heart of the best square!
The Hampshire is a decent hotel, just off the main part of Rembrandtplein. It's clean and tidy, although I'm not too sure it knows what it's trying to be...cool, modern, quirky...it just can't decide. For example, the bar is decorated in sultry black and red, with low level, moody lighting, just aching for a soulful trumpeteer playing sad Jazz in the corner, while impossibly thin women smoke Gitanes while wearing slinky silver waistless frocks. However, the music is crashing 80s psychopop, which destroys the mood, rather.
The bedrooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, and that's really all you need, when you're in Amsterdam, and the fun's happening Out There.
Breakfast is a little prices, so I recommend finding the Cafe de Doelen not too far away for a good feed before you trek off for the day.
