Hotel Baia Grande, Portugal
A nice hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely and the bedrooms/bathroom were very large. Plenty of space. Restaurant and bar area not particularly large, but nicely set up. AC worked well in the rooms but the reception/bar/restaurant were too hot. The staff maintained the AC was on but it was hard to feel the effect of it in the communal areas. The hotel was experiencing problems with their WIFI so it was definitely patchy for the first few days we were there. Also, drinks/food from pool bar were expensive and you couldn't buy drinks in the hotel shop. A bit of a con in my opinion.
The breakfast buffet was fine - although it was the same thing every day. Word of warning though - don't drink the coffee - it was awful!! So bad, that I saw several people had brought their own instant coffee to make at breakfast. The evening buffet was not nice - do not recommend at all.
The beds were very, very hard. I know why hotels go for this sort of bed, but I found it very uncomfortable. They were also single beds (we were in a twin room). The room was so huge it could have easily accommodated double beds - can't see why the hotel doesn't have them...
The hotel provided a free shuttle service into town and one of the local beaches. This is very helpful as the hotel is in a fairly remote location. There were no bars or shops nearby. Nearest mini-mart was 10-15 mins walk away. Three restaurants within 10-15 mins walk - all good.
