Pros: In a quite culdesac this splendid hotel with its quality rooms, facilities (pool, restaurant, bar, music) etc., was so pleasant.
Cons: There was nothing I did not like about this hotel it was near as perfect.
Location: Drive to Albufera, rowdy British holiday haunts but then also lovely laid back Lagos and Tavira. Also right by motorway for Espana and Lisbon.

Too short a stay

Posted 24-Sep-2016
Pros: Staff were pleasant, experienced and professional. Cleanliness was excellent and the hotel had everything on site for a short break.
Cons: Beds could be little softer.
Location: A car or use of the free shuttle is needed to venture into Albufeira or the beaches. Local restaurants are about 15-min walk from the hotel.
The hotel was perfect for a short break of 5 days. It has a modern feel with very pleasant and plentiful staff, excellent facilities and spotlessly clean. Catering is obviously on a large scale but breakfast was varied with a plentiful choice of English style cooked and continental. Food was turning over regularly and the tea, coffee and fruit juice was surprisingly good from vending machines. It is all help-yourself but staff were around to help,if needed. The hotel itself is a little off the beaten track but free shuttles are available to take you either to Albufeira or the local beach. Dinner is available each evening and is mainly mediterranean with variations each night. The price was about 22.5 euros each night for 3 courses. It was excellently presented on a buffet basis and staff were available to take drink orders from the wine list. The dining area can get crowded but is no problem if you are happy to sit close to other couples. There is a choice of local restaurants all within a 15-min walk if you want something different. The hotel was busy with a good mix of guests, mostly couples and small groups. There was a large pool with separate bar during the day and poolside seating was plentiful with shaded areas if needed. It was our first visit to Portugal and the hotel and location exceeded our expectations. I'm sure I could find some fault but not for the price we paid. We would definitely come again.

Hotel Baia Grande, Portugal

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Pros: The large room and pool area and the free WIFI in the rooms.
Cons: AC in communal areas needs improving; WIFI needs boosting. They should consider double beds in twin rooms and having tea/coffee facilities in rooms.
Location: Location was more remote than we anticipated. Albufeira and the Marina are only 10-20 mins away by taxi but too far to walk.
A nice hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pool area was lovely and the bedrooms/bathroom were very large. Plenty of space. Restaurant and bar area not particularly large, but nicely set up. AC worked well in the rooms but the reception/bar/restaurant were too hot. The staff maintained the AC was on but it was hard to feel the effect of it in the communal areas. The hotel was experiencing problems with their WIFI so it was definitely patchy for the first few days we were there. Also, drinks/food from pool bar were expensive and you couldn't buy drinks in the hotel shop. A bit of a con in my opinion. The breakfast buffet was fine - although it was the same thing every day. Word of warning though - don't drink the coffee - it was awful!! So bad, that I saw several people had brought their own instant coffee to make at breakfast. The evening buffet was not nice - do not recommend at all. The beds were very, very hard. I know why hotels go for this sort of bed, but I found it very uncomfortable. They were also single beds (we were in a twin room). The room was so huge it could have easily accommodated double beds - can't see why the hotel doesn't have them... The hotel provided a free shuttle service into town and one of the local beaches. This is very helpful as the hotel is in a fairly remote location. There were no bars or shops nearby. Nearest mini-mart was 10-15 mins walk away. Three restaurants within 10-15 mins walk - all good.

Comfortable hotel near Albufeira

Posted 15-Sep-2016
Pros: quiet location but not that far from the hustle bustle of Albufeira. The staff are attentive and good.
Cons: The Wifi in rooms is really useless, should be improved. Tea making facility in rooms would be a good thing.
Location: Is about 4 miles from Albufeira. Plenty of beaches around, some decent restaurants
We found the hotel in a nice and quiet location with decent facilities. It offers good value for money. The room had a damp patch on one corner of the ceiling but otherwise comfortable with air conditioning, the bathroom was reasonably clean and had basic toiletries. The swimming pool is O.K. can be slightly dirty if too many guests. Buffet breakfast seemed reasonable.

Bed and breakfast at Hotel Baia Grande

Posted 02-Sep-2016
Supposed to be 4 star but far from it. Decor is good in entrance and bar area but poor in room. Don't pay extra for sea view unless you are on top floor. We were on level 1 and you could hardly see the sea. Bed was comfortable and room clean but sadly room and bathroom is dated. Only the reception staff were friendly. The bar staff and dining area staff were miserable never smiling or interact with guests. Breakfast was poor little choice of both fruit or pastries and overall food was poor. However bar food was good. You need a car as hotel is miles from any town or nightlife or decent beach. Won't be returning as definitely not worth the money and not even close to a 4 star.
