"Closed for refurbishment........"
Although we knew the water park would be out of action (we weren't expecting to use it in January anyway to be fair) it was not made clear to us the pool or gym would be out of action also. That came up on the website after we had booked. When we arrived reception had been relocated to one of the chalets, the pool was out of action (we were offered use of another resort "10 mins down the road" but didn't bother), the gym had been relocated to a marquis on the lawn, and generally the front of house resembled a building site more than a resort...........That said the room was very clean, the facilities all very good and comfortable and the level of amenities in the room more like a studio apartment than hotel room. When all the works are completed I'm sure it will live up to expectations. However, it really did feel like it should have been closed for refurbishment for the winter........

"A wonderful apartment"
Excellent accommodation. Spotlessly clean with so many thoughtful extras - toiletries, tea, coffee etc., very well stocked breakfast choices, beach towels for us to use and a beautiful cream tea welcomed us on our arrival. The apartment was a great base to explore from - close to the Eden Project and a short drive from some lovely towns and beaches (Charlestown, Fowey, Mevagissey). You do need a car, though - the town of St Austell isn't one of the highlights. Also, if we go again I would request an apartment on the other side of the building with a sea view. Ours was a last minute booking, though, so this certainly isn't a complaint!

"A home from home"
We stayed for 3 nights and found the accommodation to be first class. The friendly owners had lots of good advice about places to visit. A lovely breakfast and country views each morning made this an ideal place to stay with easy access to all of the main Cornish attractions.

"Bright and cheery B&B"
Staff was friendly and helpful; B&B was bright and cheery; location was handy to walk to town and to roads out of town. Only complaint is our room and en suite bathroom were very small and difficult to move around in. An overweight person would not be able use this room. I think the other rooms are larger so guests should request one of them.

"Trenderway Farm...magic!"
What an absolute gem of a place! My girlfriend and I recently stayed for two nights, having been camping for two nights prior to our stay further West in Cornwall (near Penzance), and Trenderway was just the 'comfort' aspect of our holiday that we needed! Extremely cosy and with all the rural idiosyncracies that make a place like that special to us...friendly dogs, cats and ducks wandering around, wonderful view from the breakfast area (textbook "Green and pleasant land"), still a working farm feel, and finally very tastefully decorated authentic farmhouse-style rooms and surroundings. Friendly and helpful staff to round it all off.

"Beautiful B&B accommodation in Padstow"
A lovely comfortable room with lots of little special touches. It was beautifully decorated and run by Dee and John, a lovely couple who made us feel very welcome in their home. Breakfast was great, with plenty of options. It is only 5 minutes walk down the hill to Padstow, the walk back to the B&B is up hill. Would recommend and would stay again if returning to the area.

Pocket Guide: 5 stars Hotels in Cornwall

Cornwall is a county of extremes. Positioned on both the southernmost and westernmost points of the mainland and with the country's most envied surf spots and many of the prettiest fishing villages in Europe, Cornwall is a perennial favourite for lovers of luxury holidays, without all the hassle of flying abroad or spending hours waiting around for airport transfers. This is a home-grown location that's also full of exceptional accommodation choices, including a wealth of luxury, five star Cornish hotels.

    Tranquil Locations

If you're heading to a luxury hotel in Cornwall, then the chances are you're looking for some peace and quiet. The good news is that the county has no shortage of tranquil locations where you can get away from the stresses and strains of modern life. Many of the most beautiful and peaceful spots are on the south coast. Outside the larger towns of St. Ives and Falmouth, the coastline is peppered with picturesque villages and enchanting hotels.

The Rosevine is set on the breath-taking Roseland Peninsula - a heritage stretch of coast not far from the county city of Truro. In addition to marvellous views, the hotel boasts an indoor swimming pool and on-site restaurant.

    Unwind at the Spa

Luxury and relaxation typically go hand in hand. That's why spa facilities are a common sight at five star hotels. The Retallack Resort and Spa embraces relaxation, housing private hot tubs in a unique, rural setting. Spa treatments can range from massages to facials and pedicures, depending on the hotel and the needs of the guest.

Swimming pools are also a major attraction for hotels in Cornwall. While the county is home to some of the country's cleanest and most beautiful beaches, the conditions aren't always ideal for swimmers, particularly in the winter months. So many of Cornwall's five star hotels have their own swimming pools which are heated and open to guests throughout the year.

    First-Class Cornish Cuisine

First-class cuisine is one of the most vital components to a memorable holiday. Fortunately, it's not hard to find excellent food in Cornwall! While many five star hotels have their own fine restaurants, there are plenty of stellar eateries to be visited around the county too. Padstow is perhaps the best known Cornish town when it comes to food, thanks largely to the influence of celebrity chef, Rick Stein. From simple fish and chips to a hearty Cornish pasty, there's plenty of mouth-watering local food on offer in this quaint fishing town.

    Sports in Cornwall

With such stretches of natural beauty, there's no doubt that the outdoors is one of the biggest draws for holidays at five star hotels in Cornwall. One of the best ways to enjoy the outdoors is sport. Gentle sporting activities include walking across the undulating moors, or teeing off at one of Cornwall's many fine coastal golf courses.

Visitors looking for something more challenging can head to the north coast to visit one of the many surf schools. With so many Atlantic-facing beaches, it shouldn't be hard to find a suitable break at pretty much any time of year. Other options in the area include paragliding, hiking and sailing. If you want to know more about what's on offer where you are, simply chat to your hotel concierge, who will be able to give you the benefit of that all-important local knowledge on the best sites, the best eateries, and the best ways to relax in Cornwall!
