“Near Ortigia, a comfortable and welcoming hotel”

Hotel Cavalieri was our first stop in Sicily. It is about a 3 block walk to the bridge to Ortigia, the location of the old city and many restaurants. We were welcomed by the helpful English speaking staff. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. It overlooked a central courtyard so was very quiet. Breakfast was good, providing a number of options including a very Italian selection of cakes. In November, most of the guests appeared to be business men. The hotel is well maintained and very pleasant, in an older building that was tastefully renovated. It was an advantage to near but not in Ortigia. Traffic into Ortigia is restricted and it likely becomes very congested in high season making driving to a hotel on the island difficult. This was one reason we chose Hotel Cavalieri. We were very happy with the hotel and recommend it highly.

“A very special, beautiful and comfortable hotel--highly recommended!”

I've stayed in many hotels and there are some that just stand out. Hotel Cavalieri is one. It is a beautiful "design" hotel but unlike some other "design" hotels I have stayed in, this one is very comfortable and the designer ((the owner's son) obviously gave great thought to every detail. Clean and beautiful bed linens and towels, beautiful decor, comfortable king size bed, sleek bathroom fixtures, great lighting, night tables,'his' and "hers" bath gels, beautiful public spaces for sitting, books left on a long shelf in the hall outside your door...it's a well appointed hotel. Breakfast was was dazzling-----including fresh blood orange juice. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and to give us good advice about what to see, where to eat, how to get places, etc. We cannot thank Giuseppe enough; he works evenings at the desk, and not only helped us find restaurants but suggested what we as vegetarians might eat at them, he helped with our internet connection, without asking printed out a Google road itinerary for our onward journey to Taoramina. In short, the hotel is beautiful, comfortable and all the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home---and in fact, they take pride in doing just that. The hotel is just 2 blocks from Ortigia and so its location is great for visitng the old city and the new and not in the middle of the touristy old city.

Area recommendations
I prefer this neighborhood because it is in walking distance to Ortigia (the old city) but not directly in it. Ortigia can get crowded and the streets are very narrow and difficult to deal with if you have a car. The hotel has many restaurants on its nearby streets and also many other shops nearby.

“Would definetly recommend Hotel Cavalieri”

I would definetly recommend Hotel Cavalieri to my family in friends who are traveling to Sicily. My stay at Hotel Cavalieri in Syracuse was a true pleasure. It was my first time visiting Siracusa, and the staff was very welcoming and helpful in making certain I was comfortable. Specifically, Luka was very friendly in assisting me and making me feel comfortable.

“Love love love this hotel!!!”

After staying in several hotels during our trip to Italy recently, this hotel was absolutely my favorite. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was gorgeous and clean, and the breakfast was far superior to any other we had on our trip. I was so impressed, I am planning on recommending this hotel to everyone I know! It's in a great location as well... easy to walk to all the local restaurants and cafe's. My only regret is that we only stayed one night...

“Pretty hotel - not impressed with service”

Overall, pretty and clean hotel, very good location close to all attractions. However, we asked that a friend who arrived by boat from overseas have breakfast w us (offered to pay, of course) proprieter refused, saying dining rm too small (which it wasn't). Changed her mind next mroning. This, although not major, left a bad taste. warning: they chrge xtra for more coffee at breakfast. Also, if u stay an xtra night check rates - they go up.

Area recommendations
This was a good area and I would recommend it.
Must see
In Sicily, can't miss the town of Taormina, situated on cliffs and unbelievably beautiful. Also, the town of Caltagirone, built on the side of a mountain and known for it's Majolika (famous Italian cermaics) which most of it's 40,000 inhabitants are busy making. If you get to the city of Catania, a major port, don't miss the seafood market. We used this city as a base (we stayed in hotel Novecento, a three star which was very reasonable, clean, great service nice rooms and right on the edge of the old city, walking distance to everything - recommend to expedia to use them).
Dining
Sicily is a seafood lover's dream. Restaurants called 'typical Sicilian' or 'restaurant in the antique Sicilian style' mostly serve fish and seafood, many of which serve no meat. The food is very fresh and wonderful - no need to spend your money on fancy places. Don't miss the oranges, extremely sweet and tasty. Sicily's volcanic earth, and the many cultural influences (greek, Spanish, Arabic) make for some unbelievably good food.
Comment from the hotel's management
Thank you for your wonderful, introducing, remarks. We also welcome all constructive criticism, as it helps us to get better. Concerning your mentioned complaints it is clear that we were not performing to our usual standard that day, and for that we sincerely apologize. Reviewing your feedback in detail with our breakfast manager we have to mention, that probably your complaints are slightly misleading: In fact, our breakfast manager welcomed your friend heartly to have, without any extra charge, a rich breakfast with you. We are sure you and your friend had a pleasant breakfast to your complete satisfaction, being able to taste our home-made cakes and fresh Sicilian orange juice. Since on these days we were fully booked, we had to guarantee a smooth and pleasant breakfast for all our guests, and were therefore, at first glance, not at your complete disposal. We sincerely apologize for this not strightaway perfect service. We have charged extra for another breakfast, since it was ordered to be served in room. Top priority at Hotel Cavalieri is to deliver their guests superior service for the best available rate. This is why rates may change daily. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Siracusa, and look forward to welcoming you back soon.

“wonderful hotel - one parking space though”

This hotel has a great location, great modern decor and friendly staff. The old town was very close and was very convenient. My only issue was that on arriving, the hotel only has one parking space outside on the street which I was informed was full as its a first come, first served. As we were on a week long trip araound Sicily and had purposefully booked hotels that stated they had parking this was quite a frustration as it took us a while to find a parking space and it was a few blocks awy and then you had to carry all your belongings to the hotel. Not as easy as other reviewers have described. Hotel was great though and a great breakfast.

“Best in Syracuse, and Sicily.”

We had an excellent stay at this small boutique hotel. The owners work the front desk and are extremely helpful and friendly. Unlike many hotels the pictures of this hotel are actually very accurate. And we loved the modern design of the hotel, very difficult to find in Sicily. Wifi worked great (another rare thing in Sicily). There are some good restaurants nearby, but a five minute walk takes you into old town where you can find lots of choices. Their breakfast was simple but had the same quality level as the rest of our stay in the hotel. Parking was easy on the street one block away. We are hoping the owners open more hotels we can stay in. Highly recommended.

“A great place for a long weekend”

This was a delightful and beautifully designed hotel created from a period building by the son of the owner who is an architect.. Whilst being modern it was very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the owners. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was amazing. The hotel was a few minutes walk from Ortigia where there is a wonderful market, shops and really good restaurants in the mediavel alleyways. I thoroughly recommend the hotel and would be happy to recommend it to friends.

When to go
Easter was a perfect time to go to Sicily. The sun shone and the fields were full of trees groaning with lemons and blossom . There were very few tourists and the wonderful Greek and Roman remains were uncrowded which was a real treat.

“very impressed”

A gem of a hotel. It is beautifully designed - our room was very stylish but also very functional, with a well sized bathroom. It was a pleasure walking into the hotel each time. The public areas were immaculate and very peaceful. Breakfast was good - very delicious bread, cheese and cakes. The staff were very polite and helpful. It was an easy walk to Ortygia from the hotel and it was also easily accessible from the station. I would highly recommend this hotel.

“Ideal Location, superb staff”

This was a perfect hotel for our break in south east Sicily. Location is perfect for sight seeing around Syracuse. The staff were very, very good and could not be more helpful. Our room did not have a balcony - which was a disappointment as we had no 'outside' seating available. We would definately use this hotel again
