“Dirty, Cold, and Broken”
The room was filthy, the walls had trails of gunk on them, the floors had garbage, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The AC was cranked for good reason, without it, the smell of the room was overwhelming. Even the luggage rack was broken. I would recommend people avoid the HoJo's
“One of the Best Places Near Amherst”
I visit Amherst about twice a year to visit my boys who go to UMass. I have stayed in many hotels in the area, and I find this hotel has the best facility with respect to price in the area.
“Good hotel for the price!”
You get what you pay for, but in a good way. The room was dated but comfortable, clean and in pretty good condition! Convenient location to the colleges though (I was there for a conference at UMass), and to downtown as well!
“Yuck”
Room smelled of cat pee. They tried to disguise it by turning the airconditioning up high. The room was extremely cold when we entered. We turned it off, went out to dinner and came back to a room that reeked of cat pee. As it was a busy weekend in the area there were no other rooms available. After an hour, the desk clerk found us a room. He was friendly and tried hard to help us out. Finally only because another guest wanted a smoking room were we able to move. I will never go to another Howard Johnsons.
“Just gross!”
carpet was damp (probably from the deep cleaning for a pet friendly hotel). The blankets had pet hair in them. Bathrooms quite dated. Would never stay at again.
“Only stay if other hotels are not available in proximity of Amherst College”
I would only stay here again if other hotels are not available in proximity of Amherst College. The hotel overall was old, the room furniture was equally old. The room had a bad smell, possibly urine - not sure if they do a good job of cleaning the bathrooms. Breakfast is very limited, had three choices of cereal, oatmeal, some pastry, juice and coffee/ tea. Staff were courteous though - thank you!
“It came from the '70's”
This hotel is old.....our room had an A frame-like exposed beam 70's vibe. Location worked for us - and truth be told we just needed a place to sleep. Not the cleanest (but that missed a spot w/ the vacuum dirty, not the maybe this place has bugs dirty). Skip the breakfast - Shelburn Roaster is just across the street for good coffee and baked stuff. Did not check out the pool. Would only recommend with above full disclosure to folks that will be out all day, and just need a cheap place to sleep (not recommended if you have to pay full-price)
“Needs a facelift and a deep cleaning”
Hotel is very shabby- carpets were filthy and the hotel was humid to the point of the entire room was damp. Breakfast was poor- bins of cereal, stale bread and bagels, no fruit. Would not stay at this hotel again until they do a massive remodeling.
“rooms are not clean”
This hotel is very conveniently located, and pet friendly. The staff was nice enough...BUT it was not at all clean and very run down. Our room did not look as if it had been vacuumed, and the bathroom was most definitely not clean. Sheets and towels seemed clean, but the overall housekeeping was horrible. I was afraid to walk around barefoot and was afraid to touch the ratty blankets on the bed. ick! I would not stay there again.
“Business in Amherst”
As previously mentioned = easy check in, easy parking, free breakfast, great location, free wifi, clean and comfortable great value
