Wanted a nicer hotel with prime location. This one was great. The bed was comfy and I was in a handicap room so it was spacious. The free breakfast in the morning was good-juice,muffins,bread,coffee, and even waffles. The line was a bit long for the waffles but the machine took 2:30 for 4 small waffles and with a full hotel it was expected. About a 20 min drive to cannery row and right off of Fremont so my friends and I walked to the beach. The employees were nice too. We stepped outside to smoke since the rooms are non smoking and the front desk called and kindly told us that the neighbors thought we were too loud even though it was only 8.. But the experience as a whole was excellent. Will probably stay here again.
We loved our room and the incredible breakfast. When we checked into our room it smelled as though someone had been smoking in our room, although all the rooms there are non-smoking. The hotel staff immediately found us another room which was perfect! Breakfast staff helped us with food options for our child with a food allergy.
Check in was super fast, the room was very clean and quite large. The bathroom was giant! My inly complaint is that when there were people being loud in the parking lot we could hear everything (though no more than you can in any hotel in this class - and the rest was way better).
Motel is located about 10-15 minutes from Monterey / Pacific Grove attractions and close to a nice beach. Building appears a little dated from the outside, but our room was clean and appeared to be recently remodeled with nice clean bed linen, newer bathroom fixtures, a LCD TV, a coffeemaker and a mini fridge and microwave. Rooms are standard size, not particularly large, but was adequate for 2 adults and 2 children for the night. Our upstairs room was pretty quiet and we barely heard the other guests. A decent self serve breakfast was served in the lobby with toast, waffles, muffins, cereals, coffee, tea and OJ.
On one of days we stayed there, I left one of my camera bags, unlocked and obviously visible as such in the room when we went to Monterey for the day, with a couple of lenses and a flash in it. I realized this in the afternoon and was fretting until we got back to the room later in the evening. The camera bag was there as I had left it with all the contents in it. That speaks for the honesty and integrity of the staff.
Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend this motel.
The Thunderbird appears to be a family run business. They are conscientious about keeping the rooms clean & modern. Our room had lots of floor space. There was a refrigerator and microwave.
They had complimentary coffee & muffins for breakfast. These would be good enough to hold you over until you could get a proper breakfast. Several places were nearby.
The motel is close to several interesting ethnic shops and a large grocery store.
You can also walk to the seaside for a walk on a paved trail.
A friend and I went to Monterey for a golf tournament and were looking for well-priced accomodations. This motel was small but cozy and very clean, which was more than we expected. After a long day at the links, the comfy beds were a pleasure to fall in to. We will definitely stay there for the next tournament.
