“Nice Stay”
Clean and comfortable hotel. I would return!
“Good er NO”
A good location cannot make up for the fact that the room was dirty with stains everywhere and bedding with rips in it.
“Not too bad”
The location was less convenient than expected to visit SF and dine out - and the neighborhood definitely not the best. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable, but the bathroom and the general hotel amenities are not ageing well. The free wifi connection (only real perk of the hotel) was soooooo sloooooow we couldn't get anything done online, a real disappointment.
“Great Hotel but really bad neighborhood”
The hotel is really great unfortunately it is not very well located and the neighborhood was not inviting.
“don't like this hotel”
it is cheap, that's the only advantage. the air conditioner does not work. too cold at night.
“Refurbished, but not quite”
Interestingly enough, I actually stayed at this same hotel 10 yrs ago when it was called Hotel Britton... The building is the same, the decor has been updated: cute wallpaper, vintage-style photo booth in the lobby, and a cluster gallery of guests that have push pinned their pictures from the photo booth. There is one elevator and it's small. Free wireless in the hotel but a moot point with the spotty connection. Be forewarned, no mini-fridge, no microwave, NO central heating/air! The rooms in the hotel are controlled by a central thermostat, so be prepared to wake up matted in sweat w/cotton mouth at 3 am. The short partition wall between the beds radiated heat, pipes maybe? They have ceiling fans above each bed, which work well ONLY with the windows open for circulation. Our room was looking down onto 7th and the street noise is surprisingly LOUD. Blaring fire trucks/ambulance, honking from agitated drivers, hobos yelling to the heavens, drunk party goers screaming for cabs (you get my drift). The staff were great, and really pleasant. Appreciated the extra security of swiping our room card to use the elevator. The location is excellent (albeit all the homeless drunks), it's a block and half from the Civic Center BART station so you really don't need a car. Get a Clipper card and use their efficient public transportation.
“Room sold itself, Check-in a nightmare for my friends, neighborhood dodgy!”
IK was glad I booked through Expedia because I had no problems with my room. But my friends who only reserved the room, got over charged and all their money taken out of their account when they used their debit card. So then they were broke for the rest of the trip. The front desk clerk didn't understand the system and kept running the card which then charged them 3 times. He also didnt speak English very well so it was even more confusing as to what the problem was. The rooms were very clean but they were all different so while some people had twin beds, others had doubles and all for the same rate. The neighborhood was awful and the walk to the trolley stop was frightening even during the day. The homeless situation is out of control!
“decent with the price and location”
When i got there the neighbourhood wasn't so comfortable but service was very good and location was also good.
“Simple & Convenient”
My overall view is this hotel is good value for money. No frills but good, friendly service from staff and clean, comfortable rooms. Location is good for SF Airport, F line tram and the Powell and Hyde cable car which will take you round to the Piers or across town. Good access to shops. Hotel has free wireless internet but if you need to use a PC or printer you can use the ones in the lobby of the sister hotel across the street. Apparently you can also use the pool and gym of the same hotel but staff failed to inform me of this fact when I checked in. On the down side, although rooms contained a coffee machine the only plug I could find to plug it in was in the bathroom, not ideal. Also the hotel's location on 7th St, a couple of blocks off Market St, may not be an area that would appeal to all. As a lone female traveller I found it a little intimidating walking from public transport back to the hotel particularly after dark due to the number of homeless people hanging around/begging on Market St.
“Would stay here again”
Would stay here again, interesting place, a bit noisy as we faced busy street but only a problem first night. Good location 2 blocks off market street and BART. Area a bit dicy as some homeless on street. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
