“Well maintained pleasant country inn”

My wife and were cycling from Innerleithen to Birmingham and broke our journey near Barnard Castle. This inn was not easy to find but was worth the finding. We had a spacious and bright room with ensuite basin, shower and toilet. An excellent bathroom was available just along the corridor. The evening meal was Thai (no European option). The breakfast was a good English breakfast and was well served.

“Four Alls Inn for a slice of old English hospitality”

I don't normally write reviews as most places don't deserve it one way or another. There is a tendency to the bland. This place deserves special mention though as it is a little gem of a place. It is an old inn which has been updated by the owners. I paid a pittance for bed and breakfast which included an en suite shower attached to the single room. The room was basic but very clean. It had all the normal tea making facilities, TV etc. I spent only my sleeping hours there as the inn itself is so welcoming. It is run by the owners who take genuine pride in their little hotel. I was welcomed to the bar, partook of a beer brewed at the premises and was presented with a Thai menu which offered great value for money. The dishes I had were delicious. In the morning the landlady made sure that I had my breakfast exactly as I wanted it and was fussed that I hadn't had enough to get me on my way. If, like me, you get jaundiced about some of the big hotels and their antiseptic offerings then this is a little slice of old English hospitality at a very attractive price. Good luck to the owners. They deserve it.

“Friendly village pub”

It's a pub with a few rooms in a small, quiet village near the A1. I only stayed one night to break a journey, but found it to be friendly, comfortable and quiet. Just what I needed. Food in the bar was also good, and it has some good beers. It has a relaxed atmosphere, and much better and cheaper than the motorway service station boxes.
