"Great location near station and main attractions"
We had only a day and a half to get the flavor of Edinburgh so it we chose this hotel based on its location a few minutes walk away from the Waverly train station and the main Edinburgh old town attractions. It was excellent. We were at the hotel within 10 minutes of stepping off the train and were able to walk to all the things we need to see.
Staff was very friendly and professional. Hotel is in a good location for visiting Edinburgh. Room service only has pizza after 2100 and was out of it when trying to order after getting in late from site seeing.
Great breakfast made fresh to your liking. Great location no need for public transportation
Parking was expensive. Rooms OK small but clean. Bathroom small. No lift we were on the third floor. We were unaware that this was a hostel!!!
My family and I stayed at the G&V for our three nights in Scotland. This hotel is fairly new and has been updated. The decor in places is a little funky/glam with bold colors like purple, pink and black but nothing that ever really put me off. Very nice helpful staff on check in and elsewhere. Our room was one of the bigger ones because we got a room with a sleeper sofa for my son. Even so the room was not overly large but what you would expect in the UK. One big plus we really liked was that the room had a mini fridge partially stocked with drinks and a few nibbles which was complimentary! I don't know if this is always the case, but we loved it so I would ask if you book a room. The shower in this bathroom was the best of three hotels I stayed in during my visit to the UK. I looked forward to it at the end of each day. The bed was also quite comfortable. Our stay included a free breakfast which gave you all the continental breakfast choices plus a few more choices with eggs and ham, salmon, etc.
1. There is no hot food at all after 930 not even for room service!!
2 drift coffee mugs were left on the desk and not cleaned, even though the coffee & mik was topped up.
3. Toiletries were small given the cost of the room for 3 night I would have expected better quality.
4. Lastly I think £15 for breakfast is a tad steep in anyone's book!
It is s lovely hotel but with sone small attention to detail it can be a better hotel.
We booked a double room and it was split into two levels. Kitchen on the lower level with bed on higher level. Overall room comfort was good. However it was rather small. Unless you order the large room, you won't be able to fit more than 2 people in here. The kitchen was adequate with all kitchen equipment supplied. Bathroom was also very small, basin is low, but was adequate. The room was again small. bed was comfortable but pillows were flat. The wardrobe sits under a part under the ceiling so you had to crouch every time you wanted to get clothes. This room will not be good for tall people.
Location - fantastic! Close to shops, food and main attractions.
Overall, I'd recommend this hotel and will stay here again.
With narrow, winding streets and alleys, this mediaeval district is a contrast to New Town. Acting as the main artery, the Royal Mile begins at Edinburgh Castle and ends at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Family’s residence. Many tourist attractions are found in Old Town including the National Galleries, Royal Museum, and St. Giles Cathedral.
