OK for price

Even the refurbished rooms felt a bit tired (especially the bathroom). Spa could be lovely but having so many windows looking in was a bit off putting.

A hotel in dire need of upgrade in facilities

Posted 24-Sep-2014
Pros: Breakfast good but totally self service
Cons: Total refurbishment required
Location: Close to seafront and town
Reception uninviting and no-one in attendance on arrival because serving in bar. No help with luggage. Room Spartan and outdated. Bathroom ancient. Very expensive for standard offered.

Standard very overpriced!

Booked a sea view room costing £150 for one night! You could barely see the sea as it was quite distant and the room did not face the sea, you could only see the beach if you stood right by the window and you had to break your neck to see it! Paid for a double room for 2 people but the bed was very small. Overall the hotel was nice but I expected a lot better for my money.

Very disappointed

Posted 22-Aug-2014
We booked this hotel as it advertised it had car parking - it doesn't - you have to park on the road along with all the other guests staying at Scarborough hotels - so getting a space is extremely difficult as parking in Scarborough is limited. We were told at reception that our room was one of their renovated ones - the bedroom had been renovated to an extent but the bathroom definitely wasn't - I don't call painting over existing wall tiles to mask grout mould and retaining an old dated bathroom suite as "renovated". The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. The room was so dark we had to have the lights on even during the day, probably due to the fact that the window (with frosted glass) faced an internal opening. The room was next to a very noisy industrial extractor, which ran until midnight and started again at 7am, so a relaxing stay it wasn't!

Lovely hotel

I stayed here in a single room while visiting family in the area. Did not spend much time in the hotel but had time for a quick swim and a glass of wine in the zen garden. Room was lovely and perfect for just one person! Excellent for the price I payed (£24).

Convenient for beach

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Pros: It was convenient for what I needed and the rooms were a decent size.
Cons: I don't think it really gave value for money. Premium room? Not sure what was premium and the "sea view" bit was just about accurate. High bar prices
It was okay - nothing special. Unfortunately a 5 am fire alarm did nothing to make it a relaxing stay.

Great location

We stayed at the hotel as part of the wedding party that day. The wedding was great & the hotel provided a perfect setting. Probably need to have a quick look at the wiring as the lights went out several times during the reception - didn't spoil our enjoyment at all though! Thank you for a lovely stay.

Superb location, superb staff

Posted 28-Jun-2014
Pros: Views from rooms on the front of the hotel; the staff, the breakfasts
Cons: Bar prices are a bit on the steep side, although well served and offset by the location
Location: Front-line hotel, with views of the sea and harbour. On-street parking (controlled by permit, free from the hotel). Not many pubs or eateries nearby
Stayed for a long weekend in June. Experience was very good overall, from the friendly check-in to the bonus of a free room upgrade to one of the premium rooms. This had wonderful views over the sea, across the gardens and down to the beach and harbour. All floors were serviced by a lift. Other than the scenery, it's a bit of a walk to get to see anything else - no issue if you're younger, but something to bear in mind Rooms were well furnished, with the most comfortable beds and quilts you could wish for, beautiful curtains and comfy chairs in the bay windows. Bathroom in the premium room had a massive drenching shower, the other bathroom we had was more functional but served its purpose. We didn't make use of the spa facilities in the hotel, so can't comment...other than they did seem to be popular with others. The only gripe we had was that some of the corridors, doors and paintwork were a bit tired - nothing serious, but certainly noticeable when compared to the bedrooms, bar and restaurant Breakfast was served in a sea-view restaurant on the ground floor, good range of food of excellent quality, served buffet-style. There was a traditional feel to this that we loved, linen napkins, attentive staff - great What stood out most to us was the friendliness and quality of service from the staff. From handling questions over the phone, to check-in, the staff in the bar and restaurant - they all maintained the right balance of friendliness and professionalism.

Lovely welcome, very friendly. you just felt so welcome and never just another customer. I asked for some flowers to be in the room and promised to pay for them, It wasn't even questioned, the flowers were there and were lovely. the hotel was warm, the beds comfy and the location was great, I will definitely go back.
