“Excellent cheap hotel, short walk to metro stations.”
Very pleased with this hotel, when i return to Moscow i will certainly use Petrovka loft again. Clean rooms, friendly staff and a very well positioned location with a supermarket just around the corner.
“Reservation Cancelled”
Although we had confirmed our reservation with the hotel by phone two days in advance, when we got there they said that there was no room for us, that the problem was with Expedia, that they had sent them an email few days before requesting that we be redirected. A few days before we had received a message from Expedia saying that our reservation was confirmed. They wanted us to find a new hotel. At our own cost despite the fact that we had payed in advance for three nights. After a few hours of demanding our rights the manager placed us at a better hotel. We had an upgrade! But we had to fight for our rights!
“value for money in a central location”
Very helpful staff, central location and very affordable
“Bargain Boutique Hostel Style Hotel with Private Rooms”
This hotel is perfect for those wanting to be close to the Kremlin/Bolshoi Theatre/sights. The staff are really helpful and will go out of their way to assist you in any way they can. They were really helpful with Visas, Tourist Invitations and Airport Taxis. We felt very safe here. This hotel is up about three flights of stairs but this didn't bother us. It was very nicely decorated/furnished inside. A bargain for Moscow. The breakfast is not worth having if it's not included in your room rate. Please note that some rooms have no windows so check before booking and insist on a room with a window. The room we were allocated was lovely. And please note the rooms are not en-suite although there are lots of showers and bathrooms and they were all spotless.
“Good value if you dont require extravagance”
This hotel is great for the budget traveller. The Petrovka staff was very nice and accomodating, and most all spoke good english. The room was warm, which is a big plus in Moscow during January! The hotel itself is more of a hostel and is situated in a side alley in a refurbished space on the top floor of an old apartment building. As mentioned in previous reviews, there is no elevator, so you'll have to walk up 4 flights of stairs each time you come/go (not fun if you arrive with a lot of luggage, although they helped us when we left). The hotel space is obviously a renovation of a previous space, which has now created 10 very small rooms and a common bathroom area down the hall. The bathrooms too, are very small. They have 2 toilets and 4 shower rooms, but we never had to wait. The hotel is situated in a good area near Red Square and some good restaurants/cafes (Peperoni and Sherbert are both very good and very close). The Metro is about an 8 minute walk. So, if you're ok with stairs and dont require fancy accomodations, I would recommend Petrovka. It's a great value for the money and the staff is the friendliest I've found in Moscow.
“Moscow's Best Kept Secret”
My anxiety about what I would find at the hotel, or even if it existed, were quickly dispelled as we made our way up the shabby four floors of stairs. The receptionists spoke excellent English and helped us hoik our bags up to our room, which was everything we could wish for - clean, warm and comfortable. I was impressed with the way the whole system at the hotel had been carefully thought out. It was no problem to share the clean showers and loos with other guests and the dressing gowns and slippers provided were a excellent touch, as was the room safe. I run a holiday home in England and am hyper critical about service and cleanliness but I could not fault them at the Petrovka. The staff went above and beyond to help us find our way around Moscow, look up Bolshoi availability, recommend museums and showed us on a big map how to get to all these places. It was a wonderful introduction to Russian hospitality. The hotel is also on the Oxford Street of Moscow and within easy walking distance of Red Square, Zum, the Lubiyanka and the Metro. The only faults I can think of were that I was a bit cold in bed at night, the outside temperature hovering around -30, even though the heating was excellent. And also the breakfasts were a bit underwhelming but I found that in St Petersburg as well. Croissants and toast instead of old bread might be better suited to Western tastes. However, I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and hope to go back there next summer.
“A hidden Moscow gem”
This luxury hostel is in a fantastic location (behind the Bolshoi, close to Red Square). Hidden in a little run-down side street (your taxi driver may not find it - look for the 17 / Petrovka street sign, just before the Apple store), it is at the heart of Moscow. The area is safe, good for fancy shopping and sightseeing on foot, with many cafes and restaurants too. Staff at reception all spoke good English and were extremely kind and helpful. They let me rest in an unoccupied room when I had to wait for my midnight train to St Petersburg after I had checked out in the morning: well above and beyond the call of duty. The rooms are small but very stylish and comfortable. You are provided with slippers, a TV and DVD player (free DVDs can be borrowed at reception) and free Wifi. The toilets and shower pods are very clean and modern and there are enough of them so you do not have to wait in line. I would certainly stay there again for another stay in Moscow. Highly recommended!

“A clean and comfy room in central location”
Room: Bright and clean. Comfy mattress and pillows. White and spotless towels and pajamas provided. Facilities: The toilets and shower rooms were shared among other guests in the 10 hotel rooms but we never had to wait when we needed to use them. A lady cleaned them very frequently and the garbage bins were always empty. Building: The only shortcoming of the hotel is no lift. The 4 flights of stairs can kill especially after wandered a whole day in the Red Square and Museums. Services: Excellent. There was someone in the reception 24 hours. The reception allowed us to check-in to our room when we arrived at 8am. We were also allowed to take a shower before we get on an overnight train at mid-night. We were very grateful for this. Location: Excellent for tourist. The Red Square is just 10 min away on foot. The place around the hotel let us feel safe that we can even walk to Red Square for the stunning view during mid-night. Overall, I am very satisfy with my stay in the Petrovka Loft.
“Barebones but great location”
My mother and I just returned from a trip to Moscow, where we stayed at the Loft. We knew it was a walk-up in an apartment building, and wouldn't be deluxe accomodations. That being said, we were disappointed with our room - no windows, and very small and cramped. It felt like we were on an airplane. The staff was nice, but not helpful with train tickets, locting points of interest, and general inquiries. The location is what is the #1 benefit - if you sacrifice comfort, this hotel's distance - 10 minute walk from Red Square - is a huge perk.
