A Long Way for Disappointment: Boston to Verdun

Posted 12-Aug-2014
Pros: Nothing
Cons: The staff. More light, honest and kinder reception towards weary travelers interested in experiencing their community.
Location: WWI sights and battlefields
We were so looking forward to staying at the infamous Coq Hardi. However it was extremely disappointing. Our initial reservation from Expedia noted a full bed and our room had only two tiny standard beds. On arrival the receptionist made us feel we were a bother rather than a customer. The interior hallways were as dark as tomb, day or night. The toilet was electrically powered and required all kinds of unusual noises and gyrations to work. The phone, internet, and television did not work. When we mentioned the need for these, one remark was the "boom boom did it", referring to lightening storm that night. And another staff admitted in broken English "it is the only room without power, sorry, the box is not working." She also informed us there was not another room available. It appears this was the weekend staff because at check out, the apparent supervisor was shocked and responded to our disappointment by refunding 57 euros. But unfortunately it was trying to shine a sneaker on a very disappointing experience. We could not, in good conscience, recommend this hotel to anyone.

Centrally located and away from street traffic

Posted 12-Sep-2013
Pros: Location, quiet and charming breakfast room
Cons: Noisy bathroom!
Location: Centrally located, a few feet from the beautiful Meuse and monuments
Unfortunately if the guest above your floor is using the bathroom, you can hear the water and flushing of the toilet, quite noisy! It seems that someone is using your own bathroom! Breakfast: if you take it downstairs, it is just a wonderful room and plenty of items to choose. WiFi:!works perfectly Staff: extremely pleasant and helpful

Le Coq Hardi - Great Location

Posted 14-Dec-2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel is located right on the Meuse River, centrally located to all the attractions in Verdun. The decor is somewhat outdated, but the hotel was clean, comfortable, and quiet, and the staff were courteous and extremely helpful. Expect a typical old (built in the 1820s) European hotel. I'd stay there again.
