Nice, one of a kind hotel

Posted 11-Jun-2014
Pros: Extreme calm of the countryside very close to the city of Verdun.
Location: Lots of stuff related to the first world war, with military cemeteries, historical locations with trenches, ossuaries all nearby.
Excellent experience. Nice welcome by the owner, who built the whole thing. Nice trees, nice and original buildings. Very spacious room with a brand new shower.

Friendly Owner and Good Breakfast

Posted 02-Oct-2013
Pros: Breakfast, price and temperature.
Cons: New towels and the use of a duster on those wooden beams.
Second stop at this hotel and in a different room I can see a reason people complain about cleaning - cobwebs all over the woodwork. It's a shame because the stuff you use is clean. The bath, sink, toilet were clean and the sheets were very clean. Nice warm room with the ability to set the temperature you like and the water is still super-hot. Yes, they could do with replacing the towels but they dry you perfectly well, even if they are a little frayed at the edges. This time we had breakfast and met the man who owns the place. He is very friendly and slightly amusing too...and although he doesn't speak English, he is adept at getting his message across with gestures. Breakfast is made for you rather than being a buffet. A plate of sliced meat with some brie and butter served with good bread, fresh crispy croissants and a hot crepe with a huge jug of tea/coffee. We would stop here again and get the breakfast again too. Sure, it's quirky but sometimes that's a nice thing.

Very Hot Water A Bonus

Posted 17-Sep-2013
Pros: Very hot water. :-)
Cons: It's basic. Fine for a stop over but unless you have a specific reson for being in the area you might want a little more luxury for longer stays.
Having read some previous reviews on Trip Advisor we weren't expecting much and thought the place may need a clean. We found the place fairly easily but the parking wasn't signposted well enough. As usual, everyone spoke French. Not a problem for us, but we know it irritates some people. The bathroom was tired, but had been cleaned. The sink and bath themselves were certainly clean, though the fittings (around the base of he taps etc) needed a good descaling. This didn't bother me but it does make it look like it needs a clean. I was pleasantly surprised to find copious amounts of very hot water so happily hopped into the bath. This was appreciated after a long drive.

A really different place but truly enjoyable. Very nice on-site restaurant for dinner and breakfast. A bit remote but for something different it's worth the trip

I don't often write negative reviews but .....I agree wholeheartedly with other reviewers......this owner obviously ran out of money and needs to do some work soon to stop it looking like it has seen better days. We also couldn't find a "receptionist" and were studiously ignored by what later turned out to be staff as we wandered around trying to book in. It felt a bit like Fawlty Towers without the rudeness. We were also ignored by the one member of staff serving us our meal...which I agree was over priced. Having said all that, the room was clean and comfortable if not a bit weird ....as per other comments. The breakfast was served rather than self service at a buffet and was therefore also overpriced. If the idea is to give punters an expensive hippy experience then the hotel should clearly mark it as such because I'd rather have spent my money on a non-hippy experience.

Stay in Asterix's house!

Posted 12-Aug-2013
Pros: The dining room and breakfast.
Location: About 15 minutes off the A4 motorway so a great stop off on the way to/from the Alps and Northern Italy.
Quirky - The owner is a real character! We arrived late after a long car journey. He kept the kitchen open until late and served us a delicious dinner. Rooms are all individual and well kept. Excellent breakfast.

incredible experience

The hotel far exceeded our expectations it was most unusual with a beautiful ambience. The staff were first class and the food beyond compare. We went with our daughter for three nights so could compare two different rooms. each had its own character and was beautifully dressed. We were there for three nights and on the last enjoyed the company of 'Le patron' where we discovered that the whole hotel was built by him. so impressive. The garden included a miniature golf course, Wendy house built of stone and a tree house. The whole is set in a totally rural area with horses grazing in the fields nearby. Just can't wait to go back.

very convenient to Verdun Battle Field venues

Posted 15-Apr-2013 on Hotels.com
A 2 star hotel, in the country, in a small village, so we knew we were not going to the Ritz Carlton!! Rooms were small but clean and comfortable. Food in the hotel restaurant was very good and if what you wanted was not on the menu they would gladly try and accomodate. We had been on the road for a while and they did a nice job with laundry. Located very close to all Verdun Battle Field venues, also very convenient to the WWI USA monuments and cemeteries to the North West and within moderate striking range of Luxembourg to the East. .... The hotel met our needs perfectly. "Lucian", the owner, is real layed backand and a real kick .... the source of many laughs. Lucian's understanding (not speaking) of English and our low grade French worked out well. .... We stayed 4 days, it served our purposes well and we would go back and do it again.

Our room was a little strange with figures of naked people drawn on the wall, It was very unexpected. I am sure the other rooms must have been fine ours was just a little different. therwise the room was comfortable and clean.
