We stayed at the Sofitel Marrakech Palais Imperial for four nights at the end of November. The hotel is very impressive both outside and inside. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff were friendly and lovely (particularly Said who took us to our room when we checked in) and keen to provide a high standard of service. If we return to Marrakech in the future (which I'm sure we will as it is an interesting and pleasant city) we shall definitely stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is about an hour and a half walk from the medina which wouldn't suit everyone but gave us plenty of exercise each day and Marrakech is built on level ground so easy going. There is a large supermarket about half an hours walk away and a great Lebanese restaurant beneath the pizza hut just across the road from the Marjane supermarket . The hotel itself is good value for money, the staff are friendly and incredibly helpful. The meals as you'd expect cost more than you'd pay elsewhere in Marrakech but the food was of decent quality and the buffet style breakfast offered a good range. I wouldn't recommend eating in the Medina itself as on 3 occasions I saw salad being scooped onto plates by hands that had just been in raw meat as well as being served undercooked/raw meat and meat that was stone cold - plenty of places outside the Medina to try.
Our room was basic, but had a TV and views over the pool area and for what you're paying per night you can't expect much. The bathroom area looked dirty but on inspection it had been cleaned well it looked ill kept due to the tiling and the general finishing touches being appalling. This will put some people off but if you are just using the room as a base from which to go exploring it shouldn't make any odds.
If you book any trips you can be picked up from the hotel for no additional fee (highly recommend a trip to Essaouira and highly recommend avoiding any camel trips unless you want to be ripped off and disappointed).
