Two days in wilderness

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: Not much
Cons: Primarily the personality of the owner and the communication skills of the staff.
Location: The motel is located above the river in West Lebanon, NH.
When we checked in, the gentleman at the front counter was incomprehensible. When we checked out, the owner accused us of having a dog in the room. While we had a dog with us, she remained in our car at all times. The owner claimed to have entered the room while we were not there and saw a dog bed. Absolute lie. Because of recent injuries, I had brought an anti-gravity chair to sleep in (which I had difficulty fitting into the tiny room). Perhaps the owner thought the chair was a dog bed, but since the chair opens to over six feet she must have thought I had a giant dog. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience staying at this motel.

Older, family-run motel in a scenic country settin

Posted 23-Mar-2015
Pros: Quiet, scenic location on the bank of the Connecticut River. Affordable price. Decent breakfast.
Location: The motel is in a rural location, a short distance south of Hanover, NH, home of Dartmouth College. Ask for a room with a river view.
We arrived at a very late hour. The owner was nevertheless ready to receive us. The accommodations are very basic "retro motel" style.

Great for a short stay

It was clean and no-frills. You get what your pay for. We just needed a room for one night and it was perfect.

Have been here before--will be back

Posted 12-Mar-2015
Pros: Clean rooms; lots of desk space; hot water and good pressure; adequate towels for two adults; FAST net access; rates.
Cons: Hard pillows; sink drain needed work
Location: King Arthur Flour; Lebanon Pet Center (like a free zoo!) Close to Dartmouth Medical Center; scenic drives all around
Have stayed here before both for pleasure (motorcycle trip) and for personal (hospital stop overs) and each time the Mgmt is friendly and helpful; clean rooms; quiet area; equipped for study or work with large desk and lamp base outlets; iron and board; hair dryer; enough towels for two (lots of higher end places barely have A towel) FAST Net access; close to shops and Dartmouth-Hitchcock etc. We were set for a different area of the hotel but discovered the door step was too high for a handicapped person to easily get into room and changing rooms was NO problem. The hotel prob dates from the 50's or 60's but has been taken care of and has new furniture and carpeting etc. We will stay there again I am sure! (We have stayed in a number of different and more spendy hotel/motels in this area and this is the best of the bunch-at one high end one we were told that kids were NOT welcome --after checking in with two that they KNEW were with us!!!---and even tho they were NOT making any noise we were on notice!) So==we will be back at the SUNSET the next time we need to be in Hanover!

Shivered all night

Posted 22-Feb-2015 on Hotels.com
When we got there around 10 pm, the heat preset at 62 degrees. Could not get the room warm all night and the temps were close to zero outside. Woke up in the morning and the thermastat read 64 degrees. Also the bathroom sink was clogged. On the upside, the room was larger than expected.

It was decent

Posted 20-Feb-2015
The TV only had 5 channels (room 4) which was explained to me because of the weather. I can hear the person and the noise next to me and people scrapping the roof early on the morning.

The No Tell Motel

Posted 18-Feb-2015 on Hotels.com
Nice little place, my girlfriend called it t he "no tell motel" and that kind of covers the feeling of the place. Staff was nice, room was clean enough. We were told the room was a "no smoking" room, but immediately on opening the door you could smell cigarette smoke (in spite of the posted signs). It aired out ok (AC on fan, door open a crack, 10 degree weather) and it was fine. Mattress was low in the middle, and pillows were rock hard, but everything was clean. All in all, ok for the price.

Hidden Jewel & Great Value!

Posted 12-Feb-2015 on Hotels.com
This is a very odd motel - on the outside, it looks somewhat shabby, but the rooms, while very small, are immaculately kept, and run by a very nice family who seems to genuinely care about their business. Also, DirecTV is a nice bonus. All for a very inexpensive price. Great value if you're in the area.
