My stay at Quarters Avondale December 2014

Posted 22-Dec-2014 on Hotels.com
Its friendly and more personal. Was given special attention because I had a long stay. The place is quiet and tranquil. A very good place to come back to after a busy day. Not your run of the mill 5*, but a real worthy 5*.

Pros: Beautiful facility.
Cons: Charging for services not rendered.
Location: Location is fine - not too far from the City Center or the beach area.
Everything about my stay in this hotel was fine until check out, when I discovered that I was wrongly charged R350 for a car service from the airport to the hotel. I booked this trip and paid for it through Expedia. Before my trip, I called to confirm and I asked if the hotel has an airport pickup service. A staff said the hotel did not have that service but gave me a number of a car service to make my own arrangement. I NEVER called that car service because a friend who was also attending the conference got a rental car, picked me up from the airport straight to Durban ICC, where I registered for the conference and stayed until after 9 pm for the first program. I called the hotel from the ICC that I was arriving late, and also got direction to the hotel. My friend dropped me off at the hotel that night. When I explained this, one hotel staff member's immediate response was - "What is your friend's name?" "Where is she?" I felt hurt that she questioned my credibility, by asking for the name of my friend. I asked for evidence of car service - the name of the car company that supposedly picked me up from the airport, the time of the pick up, and any form of transaction with the car company, but the hotel staff could not provide any of these. Of course, I refused to pay for a service that I did not receive. The hotel staff did not acknowledge their mistake and did not offer an apology. I travel quite a bit and I have never had such an experience.
