Charming Old Hotel in Historic Dover

Posted 27-Jul-2014
Pros: The owner was extremely kind and welcoming.
Cons: Can't be improved, but beware that the staircase is narrow, try to limit how much luggage to bring with.
Location: Visit Dover Castle
Walking up to this hotel, the front yard is overflowing with flowers and green plants, it seems so peaceful looking out over the ocean. The owner is the most welcoming person, he really made the stay extra pleasant. If you don't like older houses this isn't the place for you. I found it charming, the rooms were decorated with older furniture, sort of felt like a step back into time, but everything was clean and very tidy. Overall I really enjoyed my stay, I liked the uniqueness of staying here versus staying at a chain hotel. Good value for the money.

Service, charm & character

Posted 04-Jun-2014
Pros: Its character and the service provided by its owners.
Cons: Nothing!
Location: Across the road from the ferry terminal, a few minutes walk from the city center and 15mn walk from Dover Castle: a must!j
We were met with a great welcome and very well looked after during our one night stay. The owners are really nice people, they gave us good advice regarding restaurants and sightseeing and they booked the taxi to take us to the cruise ship terminal. Our room was lovely with sea view. We slept well and enjoyed our breakfasts. The breakfast was served in an ocean view room and was very tastefully set, and quite delicious There is no elevator, but Robert, the Manager, helped us with our luggage. The whole hotel has wonderful character and charm, and I would definitely recommend it.

A comfortable little gem.

Posted 30-May-2014
Pros: Our room, the lounge, food, friendly owners, relaxed atmosphere and available parking. Location to ferry port, castle and restaurants.
Cons: A shower would have improved the stay as would en-suite facilities. Then it would be Excellent in all categories.
Location: Nearby ferry port, but with quiet rear bedroom. Some very good restaurants in town. The castle is behind (and above) the hotel.
A very comfortable bedroom, beautiful lounge and dining rooms made for a pleasant two night stay. Breakfasts could be varied and all were delicious. The owners were pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too difficult for them.

Stayed only the one night as catching ferry next AM so ideally placed for early start. Robert the proprietor could not have been more helpful. Room was clean and comfortable so could not fault for what we wanted.

Wonderful host

A lovely B&B, perfect for our overnight stay. Robert , the host, was fabulous, attentive without being obtrusive. We didn't have breakfast as we had an early ferry but wish we didn't as Robert revealed he is a trained chef. We had the cream room and it was lovely and private. Yes you could hear the traffic but you are next to a main road to a very bust ferry port so what do you expect! The double glazing meant that this certainly didn't disturb our sleep. Two minutes (if that) to the ferry terminal, absolutely ideal. The convenient location, pretty rooms and above all Robert made this a lovely stay, highly recommend.

Richard was a great host

Posted 29-Sep-2013
Pros: Spacious room, very clean
Location: Near town, walking distance, the white Cliffs just behind and the Chanel across the street
Suggest you take a small bag and leave large luggage downstairs. Rooms are upstairs and not convenient for heavy luggage. Breakfast very tasty. Robert is a delightful host. Walking distance to town

Pros: Nothing. It is tired-looking.
Cons: Everything. It is a letdown.
Location: It is not within walking distance to the cruise terminal or the town center.
Decor is tired. There's no elevator. There's no air conditioning. You must see it in person to appreciate that it is not how it appears. Buyer beware.

Clean & comfy but no lifts

Posted 28-Aug-2013 on Hotels.com
Clean, comfortable rooms. Friendly owner. Only real negative is that there is noblift and you have to carry baggage up quite steep, narrow stairs.
