Pros: The peace and quiet, considering it's so close to the M3 and the spa and swimming pool.
Cons: The external facade could do with some TLC. The continental breakfast would be improved by offering nuts and seeds to go with the muesli.
I had an overnight Sunday stay which meant it was very quiet. It is a comfortable country hotel complete with horses in the paddock with lovely gardens. The whole place has an air of olde worlde slightly faded elegance.

Bit of a let down

Posted 25-May-2015
A grand building according to photos and the hotel exterior but inside it's a different story. The room was outdated and bed sagging in the middle. Communal spaces also had the feel of a hostel. Water system makes terrifying noises that sounds like there's an elephant in the bathroom. Sorry to say we won't be returning

Great hotel and spa!

Posted 18-May-2015
Room was very spacious when considering the price for a double was well under £100. The only minor negative was noticed when I tried to call the reception on my way back to the hotel from function at approximately 23:00 hours. Although the hotel phone number did get me through to the automated switchboard, once I selected the extension I required, the phone line disconnected. Aside from that one small issue it was a thoroughly enjoyable stay and highly recommended for future travellers.

The hotel is perfect if you are looking for something away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Quiet and peaceful. It is a beautiful manor than has been converted to a hotel. The room was spacious and clean, bed comfortable, shower hot and refreshing! I will definitely be staying here again!

Charming quite retreat

Posted 08-Mar-2015
Checked in late (11pm) and checked out early (6am) so didn't get the chance to explore the hotel or eat in the restuarant. When I checked in it was very quite. There was one receptionist and two bar staff in the 24hr bar. The hotel from what I cld see at night looked grand and well kept. Inside was very 17th century as u wld expect. Parking on-site. My room was very clean and comfortable. Good wifi signal, TV channels and very warm. I had to turn the heating down. Some may say the decor is dated and I might agree with that but I also think that the rooms go with the rest of the hotel and character. For the price I paid I can't complain and I'm thinking of returning soon and this time check in early and take advantage of the hotel facilities. There was only one petrol station with mini supermarket near by.

good value for money

stately can of hotel albeit looking a little tired in places. Room was large and comfortable but could do with a freshening up. Spa was lovely, pool great and the staff across the hotel were very warm and welcoming.

Relaxing City Break

Posted 20-Feb-2015 on Hotels
Just a one-night stay to avoid driving home at night after a theatre visit to Southampton. Charming hotel; friendly staff in all departments; lovely room; relaxing spa; nice grounds (fed the ducks on the lake); excellent breakfast. All at a very good Hotels.com price. Thank you, we'll come again!
