Disappointing!

Posted 06-Jul-2014
Room was comfortable and receptionist was helpful. Breakfast was disappointing, bland and poor selection, dining room was similar to a room in transit with cleaning materials and furniture abandoned in a corner, waiting staff wearing poorly fitted uniforms walked past food fallen on the floor.

Tired - needs updating

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: Not much. Staff were polite and tried hard to please.
Cons: The rating - should be a maximum of 3 star - definitely not a 4 star
Following a wonderful night's stay in an inexpensive, but very well cared for B&B, we were looking forward to the amenities of a high class hotel. From the sweeping drive approach to the hotel we were confident we had chosen well. Alas the confidence didn't last and we were greeted with a tired hotel with a worn-out feel. Staff serving food with painted false nails doesn't exactly shout 4* cuisine and a bar that serves flat tonic water with a G&T giving the excuse "I just open the bottles" from the bar tender, only adds to the "let-down" feeling. We were booked for 2 nights but decided to leave after only one and return to another quality B&B. "Could certainly do better - must try harder" would be the teacher's year end report. We will NOT be returning.

Faded glory but wait for round two

Posted 30-May-2014
Pros: Architecture. Staff and how they were treated ( from what we observed). Paddocks outside ( horses and oxen) and lovely grounds.
Cons: Extra suitcase racks, covers for chairs. Locks on all windows!
Location: Country/ village location with 3 roundabouts to head in Portsmouth or Southampton direction! 20 minutes to either city. Car necessary.
We arrived around 6 pm and our reserved room had been given away. After a peaceful half hour wait we were given a nice room with a great view and two very comfy chairs. it was very much appreciated as we were staying for 4 nights. Lots of renovation. When I showed an interest I was shown wallpaper dorm the time of Napoleon, and told about items of interest architecturally. Some chaos re our meal plan but staff were very accommodating

Hotel OK, but still in need of serious decoration

Posted 16-May-2014
Pros: It was adequate
Cons: Rooms, air con, restaurant looks like a 70s set.
Location: Submarine museum at Gosport - brilliant. Also good Premier Inn en route for far better b/fast.
Stayed 4 years ago - still looks as tired as it did then. But - room OK for the price. Breakfast far too expensive, as is restaurant. Bar food was good. As you came downstairs, hideous smell of cooking wafting up. No air con, so would be far too hot in summer.

Friendly staff, good spa but room not so great

Posted 07-May-2014
There were some really good points about this hotel...firstly the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Secondly, the spa area was really good - it had obviously been recently done. Also the good we had at dinner and breakfast was very good although perhaps the bar menu was a little expensive. Also, the cocktail bar was closed which seemed a bit strange on a bank holiday. The only downside of the hotel was the room and some of the general decor of the main hotel. Our room was quite outdated in decor and needed a bit of a refresh, it looked out onto a scruffy courtyard and the hotel bins. There were also some little things like the hair dryer being attached to the drawer unit which made it hard to use and the bed was a very small double. For the star rating and the price we paid I would have expected higher quality. Although, saying that, there was work being done in the hotel which might mean this will be updated soon? Overall it was ok, but I would have expected a higher standard for the rating and the cost - the rooms made it feel like a lower rated hotel.

Lovely escape

Posted 16-Feb-2014
My husband and I went for an overnight stop and to enjoy the spa. Spa was relaxing & will definitely go back for a reasonably prices treatment. Also had meal in the bar which, while expensive, was very nice. Will definitely return for more r&r..

Could do better

Posted 07-Feb-2014
Pros: It's location and proximity / ease of access to the area. The discounted rate which made it affordable.
Cons: Lack of information in room, lack of heating in room (until addressed by reception), adhering to environment policy re towels.
Location: It was within a short distance of Botley, the M27, Eastleigh Airport and reasonable distance for Southampton, Fareham, Winchester.
The hotel itself looked a bit tired although I understand it is undergoing refurbishment. The reception staff were very pleasant and very helpful and responded to my requests promptly and with courtesy. However, the bar staff made no approach to see if I would like a drink whilst I was waiting for my lift each day. There was no heating in the room and there was no information sheet about what numbers to dial for reception, etc. I had tried zero but didn't get a reply so went down to reception only to find another guest also complaining about the lack of heating. This was addressed promptly. Each day I had left my towels on the rail, yet they were still changed each day, which seemed to contradict the hotel environment policy. Although I had a reduced rate for this stay, I would have expected better for such a hotel. The location was ideal for my visit - walking distance from Botley village, a few minutes from the M27 and easy reach of airport and Southampton.

Comfort

Posted 07-Feb-2014
Pros: Found the spa / leisure area to be quite enjoyable.
Cons: Heating in room.
Location: Stayed in hotel for business only
Atmosphere of hotel was good, found room to be cold as adjusted thermostat on radiator with no joy, possible problem with heating on the day of my stay( I work in building maintenance). Would be nice to stay in better weather.
