You are right in the heart of the action, here. Nevsky Pr. is the main shopping/hanging out artery in St. Pete. We walked to many of the "not to be missed" attractions (St. Isaac's, Cathedral Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood (the one with the colorful domes), canal boat rides, the Hermitage, The Russian Museum, The Cathedral of our Lady of Kazan,The Idiot Restaurant, the Singer building, etc. If we got tired, just hoped a bus (you don't need exact change). There are 4 rooms, all different sizes. We had the smallest. Ask for an upgrade (if it's not White Night season) and maybe they can upgrade you.
If you have heavy luggage and are not fit, avoid this place because you have to get the suitcases up the staircase yourself. Wasn't that hard for us but something to think about.
Bath is spotless (with modern fixtures) as is the whole place. They have a 40 gal. hot water heater in the kitchen so you shouldn't run out.
The hotel manager (also the only person there, other than the house keeper that comes in for a few hours in the morning) will make you a nice breakfast of eggs and sausage or two types of cold cereal, toast, jam/butter, etc. whenever you want it. She will let you use her computer/printer for Hermitage Tix - boarding passes, but it's very old and slow.
If you don't mind a place without a door-man and don't want to spend three to four hundred dollars (or more) on a room, I don't think you can beat this place for location/price.

We stayed at the Amulet Hotel for 3 nights in mid-September. The hotel is easy to find, right opposite the Metro station and in a fantastic location for Palace Square, Nevsky Prospect and the river. We stayed in Room 1 which was large, clean and comfortable. It overlooked the street so there was a little road noise and some noise at night from people on the street, but not enough to keep you awake.
The staff we met (Darya, Olga and Elizaveta) all spoke good English and were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was provided each morning at a time to suit us, and we had to pick from several different options the evening before, e.g. eggs, porridge, pancakes. The breakfast wasn't really anything special, but fine and filling. We were also able to wash and dry our clothes at the Amulet for a small fee which was really welcome after travelling for a while.
The area around the hotel feels safe and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. The bakery next door (to the right) and the restaurant / cake shop further up the street (also to the right) were both excellent. The hotel is also close to McDonalds, Subway, Teremok etc if you need something quick and cheap.

I can highly recommend the Pushka Inn in St. Petersburg. The staff was very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. Room was quiet and very comfortable. Hotel is located within walking distance of many of the major attractions. I would definitely stay there again.

I had a wonderful stay at the Sky Hotel during my recent trip to St. Petersburg. The hotel room, while small, provided a clean environment, comfortable bed, lots of closet space and excellent security. The staff were absolutely wonderful--checking me in and registering my visa several hours prior to the official check-in time, providing me with advice on how to best visit the sites and get to the train station, and let me keep my luggage there and sit in their lounge while waiting for my night train to arrive. The hotel doesn't have too many rooms, so the shared bathroom, which was always extremely clean, was never occupied when I needed to use it. The hotel's shared kitchenette provided clean hot and cold water, which was terrific for filling up my water bottle and making myself cups of soup for dinner. The wi-fi signal was strong and steady. The location couldn't have been better--central to the main N. Prospekt street, the Hermitage Museum and every other site a tourist could want. I was able to walk everywhere. I couldn't have been more pleased with this hotel!
Great location. Less than 5 minutes to the metro. In the heart of St. Petersburg! Subway used only for going out of town. Room on the second floor (no elevator). The room has everything you need. There is a mini fridge. Very small tv. Very small bathroom, sit on the toilet can only across. Two twin beds. The room is warm, there is an additional electric battery in the room and in the bathroom. On the floor is constantly drinking water cold and hot. A large window (you can open)! Outside the window dump. Breakfast is normal, 7-11 am. Check in took 3 minutes, Check out less than 1 minute. For all foreign nationals make registration for 190 rubles (if you have a visa-free entry to Russia you can be in the country without registering up to 30 days, in Moscow and St. Petersburg to 7 days).
