“Very nice cottages”

This is a great place to stay with a couple of provisos. Do not book the Coral room - it is much too small and only has one window which looks into the service area. Luckily the manager kindly upgraded our room to a real cottage which was large and comfortable. The beach is not suitable for swimming due to weeds but the pool is very nice. We also enjoyed the kayaks which are provided. Beware that nothing is within walking distance.

Area recommendations
Marathon has the most offer in terms of stores and restaurants. Do not take a snorkelling excursion unless it is a very calm day with swells less than 3 feet.

“Not impressed.”

Island Room is very small and claustrophobic. Only one bath towel supplied for two people and we had to request another a couple of times from the owner and housekeeping. Bed quilt was not very clean. OK for a two or three night stay for access to the Keys, but wouldn't recommend any stay longer. Bit disappointing and would not go again.

“A hidden gem in Marathon!”

The Conch Key Cottages were perfect for what we wanted! We celebrated our 10yr. Anniversary in this hidden charm in Marathon. We arrived to the hotel with a complete guide to all of the local activities & restaraunts & the distances from. We were greeted by adirondack seat with a bucket & shovel & our own little grill outside our door. The room had everything we needed including fresh flowers, chocolates, oranges, & waters & a daily small breakfast of fresh baked goods ariving at our door. A hammock lies lazily every cottage away, the pool is small yet for this small piece of heaven, it was refreshing & equipped with very comfortable lounge floats. Free use of kyaks was one of my favorites, but if you are a boater, the boat dock is fully equipped with ice a step away with everything including a Tiki hut with lounges after a long fishing day! Would recommend this to anyone, it may not be a high end resort, but it's VERY affordable for all the charm & special details that remind you what a keys vacation should feel like!

Area recommendations
Snorlek trips to lighthouse, Loreli & Fish Company of Islamarado as restaraunts. A bit further down in the keys was a restaraunt named No Name Pub, it had good food & a very different deco that should not be missed if you are traveling more South. Of course visit Robbie's to feed the Tarpon & do some shopping.

“Conch Key Cottages”

We enjoyed our stay at the cottages. The rooms were clean and the cottages were very comfortable. The kayaking was great and the pool was almost as warm as a hot tub. The grounds were kept clean daily. The breakfast each morning was nice but was same thing each day. Fresh fruit or different flavors of bagels or muffins would be good.. I also felt that the doors should have had an inside lock of some sort that could not be accessed with a key from the outside. What if a key was copied? The staff was trustworthy but it bothered me with a small child. Our cottage was Ocean View but I was disappointed that when I sat on the deck I could mainly see a tree and two small cottages - the ocean was visible only to the far side of the deck. This should be represented in the website and the price slighly lower than the 2 stilt cottages that are in full view of the ocean. The beach is not for swimming but was great fun when kayaking and looking for sea creatures. Bring Bug Spray!

Area recommendations
This was a great location. Key West is about 1 1/2 hours from this cottage. I would recommend staying 2 nights in Key West for a weeks vacation as it is a two lane road and probably not the safest at night. Bahia Honda State Park is nearby and a great place to snorkel. You can rent the Mask for only $5.00.

“Relaxing days”

Conch Key Cottages was quiet, pleasant, and provided kayaks, barbecues, and a pool for the guests. The beach is on a very shallow bay -- too shallow to actually swim there. You can drive down the road 15mi to Sombrero Beach which is great. They provide continental breakfast, including oranges with a juicer. The woman who runs the office is very pleasant and helpful. This is a great base from which to explore the keys and to visit a number of spots for meals, snorkeling, diving, fishing, or whatever you like. It is also far enough from the main road that you get no road noise.

“Great place to stay. Great price.”

Everyone was very friendly. When we checked in, we told them we wanted to get married, they gave us a name to call. This was Sunday night. We were married on the beach right at Conch Cottage, on Tuesday night. The other guests were our wittnesses. Everyone was so happy for us. I will be back again. Thank you for a great time and wonderful memories.

“Will definetly be going back for future trips!”

I went there for my honeymoon and it was worth it! Stayed in the Sand Dollar Room. Dont worry about being late, they have a late check in box outside. When you come into your room, gourmet chocolates are waiting for you, along with complimentary bottles of water and juicing oranges (there is an electric juicer in the kitchen cabinet). the bed is very comfortable! There's a complimentary grill. And don't worry about charcoal, lighter fluid, or matches. they are all provided! A complimentary 2 person kayak is included with your stay. The beach there is a sunning beach, the water is too shallow to swim. The pool was very nice. It goes to 5 ft. There is a boat dock and a tiki area for guests to congregate at.This is where you will find the ice machine. There are loungers and hammocks everywhere. It's a definite welcome to show they want you to relax! Breakfast time at the cottages is nice. There is a cute little wooden carved basket with a bagel, crossaunt, and a muffin for each person inculded with cream cheese, jelly, coffee, and tea every morning for breakfast brought to your door between 8-8:30 am! There is a lending library of DVD's to chose from if you want to stay in and watch a movie. The cable there is basic, and there is no phone in the rooms. The cottages are 1 hour away from Key west. If you want to go out to eat, Marathon Key is less than 10 minutes away. if you do anything watch a sunset! Look up at the stars! Definetly worth the price for the quiet location!

Area recommendations
I would stay here and then do your exploring in marathon key and down to key west. It is about an hour drive from the cottages to Key west. Definetly stay in Conch key than anywhere else becuase it is quiet and there are less people around. If you want to go out to eat, Marathon key is 10 minutes away offering a decent veriety of local resturants, grocery stores, and retail stores. You want your stay at a resort to be quiet and relaxed. I would rather have that then stay at Key west where there is no end to the noise and partying there.
When to go
We went during the summer and it was just too hot. I would recomend going during the early spring for warm weather, but not too hot to go outside in.
Getting there
Take I-95 south to Miami which turns into US1. There are no tolls if you go this way. Do not take US1 North when going home! It will take you much longer!!!
Getting around
If you are wanting to get around, a car will do it till you reach Key West. At that point, it may be better for you to rent a scooter. You don't need a motocyles endorcement, just a driver's license. A scooter can help you get to where you want to go on Duval St. But beware, all parking is paid metered parking. Try finding somehwere off the beaten path to park if you can. If you don't want to rent a scooter, ther is public transportation in key west.
What to pack
bathing suit, extra towels, snorkel gear if you have it. (they charge too much down there!), light clothing. shorts and t-shirts. Don't go all spaghetti straps if you don't wear sunscreen, you WILL get burnt!. Bring sunscreen. Aloe if you do get burned. If you are bringing cupons for resturants, do your homework. There are no Olive Gardens, Red Lobsters, or main stream resturants down there except Outback SteakHouse in Key West. Reserch before you go. If you have a laptop, bring it! It will help you plan what you want to do! Google is a wonderful tool!
Must see
If you have the chance, watch a sunset! they are breathtaking on the Gulf Of mexico! at night, look at the stars! There sre so many stars to see because there are very few city lights! Go out to a dock and look at the clear water and see the fish! There are so many that will come up close. Eat lunch outside and enjoy the views. Go to State Parks! There is literally so much to go do and see there!

“Great, peaceful place to relax”

Quiet lodge on a tiny key allowed us to totally decompress from our normal lives. The room was really nicely done, much cleaner and updated than I even expected from the pictures online. There was so much to like about the place; free breakfast brought to your door, free single/double kayaks any time you want, really comfortable king bed, attractive new beach-side furniture, strong AC, even free WiFi if you want. Those freebies saved us at least $60-80/day. Plus our sand dollar room was as low as most lesser-looking motels in the area to begin with. I highly recommend the Conch Key Cottages for anybody.

“Perfect Keys Getaway”

After a manic (but brilliant) Fantasy Fest down in Key West, Conch Key Cottages was a fantastic chill out/ recovery for a few days. Despite best intentions to get out and about, we felt like castaways and didn't want to leave. Fishing off the jetty, spotting turtles and stingrays from the kayak, or just swinging from your hammock wondering what you'll BBQ that evening are how you'll pass your days here.

“Privacy????”

Our beach front cottage was lovely, but with a cottage adjacent to it, and several duplexes directly behind it, we found it difficult to dress or sleep in our bedroom because of the see-through blinds. If I can clearly see people on the lawn outside the bedroom, or on the decks behind us while the blinds are down, I'm pretty sure that they can see clearly into the bedroom, too. Not exactly the vacation my husband and I had planned. Won't go back.
