“Not for everyone”

This place was much better than I expected after reading many negative things, it was quirky, but it seemed elementally Detroit, the staff were very nice and very helpful, the lobby is great, and the room is an exceptable place to sleep. I was reminded of lower cost European accomodations (I did have a bathroom in my room though). If you want a four star experience, then pay for it.

“Downtown Detroit Most Hospitble Hotel”

My stay at this was absolutely wondeful, the check in process occurred in minutes as the desk clerk was able to verify all my information from what i had reserved through expedia.com only 2 days prior. As to the room it was absolutely spotless nothing to complain about.

“Well worth the price”

I didn't book a 4 star hotel, so I didn't expect one. This was a grand place in it's day and could use some more attentive maintentance, but the room was nicer than I expected. The staff was friendly and helpful. I chose The LeLand by price and location and was well satisfied with my stay. If you have money to burn and want the best, this isn't the place. If you want to get what you pay for and travel on a budget as I do then you probably will be as satisfied as I am. I will stay there again.

“Not a three star hotel”

This was a grand hotel, at one time, and still has some great charm. Unfortunatly, it has not been restored to full "three star or better" status. Beds are good, staff is very hard working, clean enough (except for floors that they don't use).

“Pleasant surprise”

The leland has been around for some time, now under new owners. Needs updating. The staff was very courteous. The hotel has the minimum requirements for a short stay. This is a lower cost hotel within walking distance or access to people mover of most major downtown Detroit activities.

“We had an adventure!”

The Leland would have once been a magnificent hotel, its desperately in need of a refurb but overall cheap and cheerful and we stayed for 10 nights! Everything was within walking distance and one of the best holidays we've ever had! We had our own kitchen, fridge, microwave but it would have been great with the pots, pans and cutlery, we had to go to the diner to beg!! The staff were friendly and towels were abundant. If your used to 5 star luxury then this isn't the place for you, but it was a bargain and we travelled around and did so much, Detroit was an amazing experience, we don't do "tourist" holidays and this definately wasn't one of those!

“Not Impressed”

I was not impressed with this hotel at all. It was really creepy looking inside. The air conditioner looked like it had been through hell. I was kinda afraid to sleep in the bed but I figured it was for 1 night it will be fine. The tub looked nasty so no shower in the morning for me. I just wanted to get out of there. Someone that rode the elevator with said it reminded them of the ride at disney world. Tower of Terror! As you went up and down the elevator you could see through a crack where the doors did not meet up. Plus the inside of the doors of the elevator was wood.

“Not Impressed”

“A Tired Looking Grand Old Hotel”

During my stay, I appreciated the cleanliness and comfort of the room. However, the plumbing did not work well. The TV in the room had very poor reception. It was not cable TV. However, I liked the little refrigerator and microwave. If you are a tolerant person and not too fussy, it's OK. It has a very good location near the "Detroit People Mover" and casino. It is a tired looking hotel. The elevators were OK. If I had my choice, I would stay elsewhere, but I would stay there again if I had too.

“Faded Glory”

The Leland must have been, at one time, a beautiful hotel. It still holds a look, but there is some serious upgrading that needs to be done. Our rooms were spacious, and clean. Parking was in a supervised, gated lot. The hotel is close to the theatre district, and Detroit's other downtown attractions.
