Dining

In the restaurant, enjoy excellent value, home prepared cuisine. The restaurant is perfect for either a leisurely lunch or as a place in which to relax at the end of a day of activity and sightseeing. The layout is such that the restaurant (which seats 55 people) can adapt to the requirements of both group and individual bookings. Incidentally, we usually offer reductions to early diners and the highlight of the week for many is our Sunday roast lunch. Bar meals and snacks are also available.

“Lovely Inn”

we recently stayed at the hawk and Buckle, although there are some country roads to drive through to get there is is well worth the effort. The staff are all very freindly and helpful and the atmosphere is compltley laid back. The food they serve at breakfast and dinner is second to none, the quality is exceptionally high, we enjoyed every single meal we ate there. Highly recommended

“very friendly, relaxed hotel.”

The hotel if off th beaten track and if you are looking for other life around this hotel is not for you. It is in a small village with very friendly locals. We ate in the hotel for four nights and the local football team were in one evening. Their behaviour, manners and politeness was exemplary and reflects on the whole village. This friendliness and politeness we found ran through both the owners and the staff who made our stay very welcoming and pleasurable. The rooms are clean and well fitted out; the jacuzzi was a great relief after a days walking. Most rooms also have good views out across to sea. The menu is not the largest but the food and its quality is excellent; the service was also good. The only criticism I would have would be a bigger selection of real ales! Thursday night was quiz night which is run by the owner's son; I have to say it was a great evening with plenty of banter from both guests staying at the hotel and the locals. All I would say here - 'is a mosquito an animal?'

“A gem”

What a lovely place. The room had a large window and the owners had thoughfully provided a pair of binoculars to look at the North Wales coast and the countryside between. The bed was extremely comfortable which cannot be said of many hotel beds. But it was the bathroom that was impressive; a double bath with a jacuzzi jets, so relaxing after a long drive. We ate in the restaurant that night. A good menu with both traditional choices and modern english cuisine. The next day the breakfast was good and filling. Our checkout was handled quickly and efficiently settling up for dinner the previous night. O I nearly forgot, it serves good beer. They had Celebration Ale from Conwy Brewery on.

Area recommendations
In past, we've stayed in the Clwydian Hills to the east and the Conwy Valley to the west,, but had never visited this area before. On our drive from the Hawk and Buckle to the Conwy Valley, I thought that it might be worth paying another to walk the area albeit through very agricultural land which seemed well signposted with paths.

“Near the Back of Beyond”

It's easy to forget how small some roads can be in remote rural areas. The operative word is Narrow, plus, occasionally, Steep. Getting lost must also be factored in as road signage ranges from confusing to non-existent. Do they dislike tourists in N Wales? The Hawk and Buckle is a charming old country inn with friendly, cheerful staff. The en-suite room, though compact, was clean, and there was a spa bath, for those who wish to have the launderette experience (noise and turbulence). The food was excellent value and while not fancy, wasn't entirely predictable. The beer and 'vin de table' were much appreciated. As a base for exploring N Wales, try this inn. It is unpretentious and 'does what it says on the tin'.

Traveller's tip
Get a good OS map of the locality to help navigate the tiny roads.

“Just Wonderful”

The hotel was perfect for a relaxing trip to nothern Wales. The rooms were great and you can't say enough about the hotel staff. One member of our group was from America and had never had a full English breakfast. The staff went out of their way to provide the group member with a great taste of the UK.

Traveller's tip
The hotel also has a pub. We didn't have dinner at the pub, but the meal we saw come out of the kitchen looked great.
