Situated on the Caribbean side of the Panama Canal, Colon boasts 3 modern ports. The city is the second largest in Panama, and the second largest duty-free port in the world. A free-trade zone with more than 1,000 companies spans approximately 600 acres. Founded on Manzanillo Island, the city has expanded its limits to include several former Canal Zone towns and the US Army base of Fort Gulick.
