“Quiet Night at the Safari Inn”

The only problem with the room was that there was only one tv station available for viewing; Animal Planet. The hotel is always clean and quiet at night when I stay there.

“Amazing value for the money”

The motel is in the process of renovation and upgrading. Will be a great value when completed considering location and price.

“It could be better - it has potential - unacceptable manager treatment”

I didn't expect a 5 star hotel experience but I did expect courtesy. The clerk seemed over tired and run down more so than the hotel itself. I did appreciate that he allowed us to look at one room that was obviously a smoking room (we asked for non) and then gave us a much better room upstairs. When I called at 9am to get more towels I obviously woke the manager up and he didn't speak to me the entire time he got the towels for me. The lobby had been locked when I tried it before calling but there were no business hours listed. That was rather unacceptable to me. I would not go back. The hotel has some beautiful trees, a nice shower and some amenities but it appears that they are in the process of making it nicer. There is a terrific restaurant within walking distance though!

“Cheap & Clean”

If you are in Chico as a vacation destination I wouldn't recommend this place. But if you just need a place to crash for a few days it is cheap and reasonably clean. Second time staying here and both times the folks at the front desk were courteous.

“Could have been worse...”

We stay in Chico a couple of times a year, and usually prefer the Heritage Inn. But, since every other hotel in town was booked when we needed to stay there this last time, we reserved a room at the Safari Inn despite the dreadful reviews. Since we were expecting a hotel from hell experience we were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't THAT terrible. We were lucky enough to score a room that was on the 2nd floor at the end (room 209), with no room underneath so there wasn't that much noise for us. The bed was rather hard and lumpy and no very enticing. Probably the most irritating element was the side window (I presume most rooms don't have this window, but we were on the end) had no curtains, but we tacked up an old blanket. We stayed for two nights, and when they made up the room for the second night they managed to forget to give us ANY towels, so had to go and beg for some. It was no problem, and I presume an "innocent" oversight. Again, nothing disastrous, and I wouldn't stay there again, unless the good places are booked. However, it is cheap, in a good location, and you'll probably survive the experience.

“Very, very low budget!”

Very old hotel in need of updating and repairs. Burn holes in the blankets, room reeked of smoke though it was supposed to be non-smoking. Huge stains and splashes on the walls of who know what! Refrigerator was dirty upon check in and remote did not work. No faceplate on air conditioner control and no knob on warming light in bathroom. I actually cleaned the shower before using just to be safe!

“Will not be going back.”

I stayed in this motel last weekend when my family was moving my sister to chico. It was cool that we got there an hour and a half before check in and they let us go right in. But it did smell a little smoky in the room...even though it was "non-smoking." I mean the Floors were vacuumed, no visible dust, garbage empty, beds seemed clean, but the wallpaper was coming off in places and a/c did not work to our satisfaction and grout in the bathroom was dirty...plus bug in the shower. When I opened the window in the bathroom, there was no screen and there were people living in tailors right there....we could have talked to them....that was weird. Since I didnt have to ask anything of the owners, my stay was not sooo bad...but my mom who stayed there with us in a different room had to ask for extra towels ...she waited to call until 9am...and the guy who brought them obviously just woke up and was NOT happy. If your gonna run a hotel be prepared to be available 24/7 and have good customer service. Then when we went to check out....we couldnt find anyone...just had to leave the keys in this box next to the door!

“Not comfortable.”

First, they don't mention in their ad that there is a $20.00 deposit to activate the phone and they charge $1.95 a minute to use it. I went next door to the liquor store and used the pay phone and saved a ton of money. Everything in the room was unplugged, even the refrigerator so we had to wait for it to cool off to use it. The bed was hard and the pillows so flat and skinny, I woke up with a stiff neck. I wish I would have saved my money and slept in my car, I wouldn't have been any more uncomfortable. I had to use a hand towel to wash with as there were no wash cloths. Next time I'll know better. I am planning more trips there but I won't be staying there.

“GYPPED”

Purchased this hotel stay for the 40% off, blind. After purchase confirmed, able to read reviews, not one good review, all very negative. Decision made based on reasonable past purchases in other cities, and got burned on this one. Too old for "adventure". Chose to make second hotel purchase and take Safari Inn as a loss. When arrived in destination city, confirmed reviews we accurate. Glad to accept loss & move on. It's this customers opinion that Expedia should NOT represent the Safari Inn
