“Great Staff, perfect location”
Room was small, but certainly adequate, generally clean, although a bit dusty around the edges (baseboards, etc). Bed very comfortable, bathroom clean and well stocked. The building has an interesting history. Any shortcomings were more than made up for by the very friendly and helpful staff. They made reservations, booked tours, called cabs and generally went out of their way to be good hosts. Anything we needed was no trouble...front desk staff, breakfast staff and cleaning staff all really great. Continental breakfast was fine. Wine and cheese before dinner, and sherry in the evenings is a nice touch and a good way to meet other travellers. The location was perfect,-easy walking distance to historic sites, the market, the pier and many restaurants.
“Overpriced and unimpressed!”
This pricey hotel was a real disappointment. I'd read mixed reviews on Trip Advisor and gave it a chance. Was that a mistake. The room looks like it hadn't had a good cleaning in years; the bed was a double and gave me and my spouse back aches every morning. Sheets were pink and old. The room smelled musty and the only window was to a central shaft with a skylight. The public spaces were much cleaner and decorated nicely, but not extravagantly. Breakfast was the usual continental fare as was the wine & cheese in the afternoon. You can't beat the location--walking distance to great restaurants, the market, carriage rides, etc. Parking was ok, too. Best to look elsewhere for a good night's sleep.
“Very satisfied”
The Anchorage Inn is a very nice place to stay in Charleston. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. The inn is within walking distance to the market, the shops, and the pier. It was just an excellent and convenient place to stay. We would most certainly go back again.
“not a bargain”
no windows, small bath, expensive for outdated and cheaply appointed furnishing.
“PSUfan”
Great facility, great location and WONDERFUL weather during our stay!
“great stay in Charleston”
the manager was very hospitable. I arrived early and they stored my bags, gave me coffee and showed me the library to rest until my room was ready.
“Great location-terrible hotel!”
The location of the hotel was superb! It was walking distance to the infamous pineapple fountain, market, and restaurants. It left nothing to be desired as far as location went. The ambience of the hotel was nice. Fresh flowers were everywhere and the nostalgic charm of the furnishings were lovely. The room however, was another story. It was the smallest room I have ever stayed in. The cameraman that took the photos for the web site had to have stood in the hallway or used special lenses. I tried to get a picture of the room but it was way too small to allow that. The sheets were pink! My husband was not impressed with that. The sheets were also not a good thread count and had those little tiny balls on them. The pillows were the worst part of the entire trip. I have thrown away better pillows than room #11 had! There was no filling to them, they were almost flat. We both had sore necks in the morning. Breakfast was okay in a pinch but we wished we would have went out. There was sausage gravy in a crock pot that was fantastic but the biscuits tasted like they were two days old and not fluffy or nice at all. The cloth napkins had no life to them and felt worn and reminded us of cloth diapers. When we went to check out, the receptionist had her mouth full of food, but we were able to figure out that all she needed was our keys. Surely there is a hotel that is more customer oriented with just as good of location.
“Perfect!”
Very quant and right next to the water. Best place for your money and super close to everything.
“Terrible room!!”
We arrivedat 11.30pm from Europe, the room did not have a window but it was too late to get them to change anything. the room smelt dank and musty. The breakfast was OK and the location was great but I would never recommend the hotel to anyone.
“Great hotel with local flavor”
If you're looking for a hotel that does not feel generic and is in a great location look no further.
