“Charming Place to Stay”

This small, owner-operated hotel is similar to to a bed and breakfast. It's in an historic house, not far from the central square. My wife and I both really enjoyed our stay, and the way everyone there went out of their way to make us feel at home.

“Great family-run hotel”

Really felt at home here. Friendly and helpful staff who all did their best to please. Would I stay there again? For sure. It would be like visiting family.

Area recommendations
Bruges is a small city so just about all areas can be reached from almost everywhere on foot. There are also some amazing tree-lined canal-side walks which once again aren't that far away from the city centre.

“Quaint, central hotel with very friendly staff. Recommended.”

Great location, just off one of the main shopping streets and minutes from the main squares. Lovely old character and quaint decor on the ground floor. Warm and friendly staff who spoke good English. Good size room with minibar (bit pricy) and the only place we found with tea & coffee making facilities in the rooms (free and replenished each day). Buffet breakfast was nice. We didn't think this was a 4* but we paid a 3* price so were happy with the value for money. The terrace off the bar overlooking the canal would be lovely in the summer. We would stay there again.

Area recommendations
Bruges is a lovely place and not too big so you can walk everywhere. Just wander around the canals, shopping streets, main squares and explore. Wear flat shoes - there are cobbles everywhere.
Dining
Dinner: Highly recommend Bistro 't Klein Genoegen (off the far right of Simon Slevin square by the Mango clothes store). Delicious food and excellent service. Cafe 't Zand on the 't Zand Square does a good Flemish Stew and Apple Pie with Flambe Calvados. Le Panier D'oR on Markt is also good. Coffee/Lunch: Cafe au Lait on Nordzandstraat - delicious waffles and pancakes, good service, very clean and nicely decorated. Not as expensive as it might initially look.

“Get what you pay for”

We chose this hotel because of position and price. We've stayed at several other hotels in Bruges over the years and as other say you spend little time in the hotel and we would prefer to spend more on meals out (which we did). Hotel is ok, tired is a word often used and is probably correct.; carpets need replacing etc but hotel is clean and staff very friendly. Breakfast is great with wide choice of meats, cheeses, bread, croissants and fruit as well as some warm/hot food for those who want it.

“Kind Staff, Bad Hotel”

I got to say, I'm really easy going with hotels, service, etc. But we had some problems with this hotel during our stay. The staff was super great. They recommended some good restaurants and even called to make the reservations. We overslept and missed breakfast in the morning, but the waiter brought out some food again for just the two of us and cleared us a table. The problems was just with the hotel itself, which was frankly just a little too run down. And since there was no ac, we had to sleep with a window open and both got absolutely destroyed by mosquitos.

“So sad to eave!!!!”

Recently had wonderful European vacation which included Bruges which turned out to be one of our favorite places We booked all of our hotels online throughout Belgium, France and Italy And the Azalea was our favorite ...the staff were very helpful and went out of there way to accomodate us...the big windows facing the canal with the canopy of leafy trees made the room a lovely relaxing place to come back to after miles of walking. We were in #3. The added bonus of a swan with three babies rtght outside the window was an added bonus. Breakfast was hearty with good coffee....a real treat to stay there!!!

Traveller's tip
It is definately worth taking the bus tour to get an overview of the city to see the places you want to go back to...book ahead online

“Wonderful stay”

Azalea Hotel was extremely welcoming. The barman was very helpful with suggestions about sites/areas to visit. The hotel was relaxing and had an old world charm coupled with modern facilities. Our window over looked a quiet canal and a nesting swan. The hotel is in walking distance of the central sights and we had no problem exploring most of Brugges during our three night stay. Perfect for couples who want to get away from it all and like plenty of beautiful buildings to look at. In Brugges food prices seemed on the high side but meals were substantial and yummy.Breakfast at the hotel was good and a relaxed affair.

Traveller's tip
Visit Lovers' Lake and the surrounding area during early evening when the daytrippers have left - very peaceful spot.

“Cozy and convenient”

Very cozy hotel and central location in town. Friendly staff who all speak english. Takes pets. Breakfast was typical european style...very good and enjoyable. I would definitely stay there again.

Traveller's tip
Watch the price of a "coke light" in the restaurants...paid 6 euro a drink at one place in the main square...better value to get a beer or glass of wine. Had the Flemish stew...although tasty...basically was stew meat without any of the usual vegtables...better go for the steaks!

“Small and cosy”

A very friendly hotel, staff are all very helpful. Quiet location as tucked away in one of the many back streets, but still very close to the hustle and bustle of Brugge. Would recommend to anyone. The decor is a bit tired, but breakfast is good and as stated the staff are friendly and helpful. Smoking is permitted in the bar area.

Traveller's tip
The best tip I received is regarding parking, you can park at the train station car park for 2.50 per day which is a massive saving on parking elsewhere in the city.
