“Close to Junk Food”
The hotel is in close proximity to quite a few restaurants. There is a superb pizza place and a sushi restaurant within 100 yards of the hotel. Also McDonalds is next door. This hotel charges for wifi which I reluctantly paid for during check-in. After logging on to the network I was presented with the option of upgrading my connection speed from the 2 Mbps that I had paid 5 dollars already for. I chose not to pay for the "upgrade" and ultimately used McDonalds FREE wifi to make an international Skype video call as the upload speed at the hotel was reminiscent of NetZero accelerated dialup and unusable for video. This hotel does not have 24 hour airport shuttle service. If you are departing early in the morning (prior to 8) then you will be forced to take a taxi.
“Bring extra blankets”
Room didn't get above 65 degrees. Fridge handle broken, won't stay there again in the winter.
“was one hotel i will never stay in there again worse hotel ever”
first the hotel furnace would not work they never offer to change our room they nevr once can and cleaned the room no new towels no nothing at all was one of the worsed hotel i ever stayed in will never stay there again.
“Horrible! Smelled in room and drunks woke us up! Find another hotel!”
My family and I checked in and noticed our room stunk like either "sweat" or "dirty socks" We tried to air out the room while we ran errands only to come back to a foul smelling room. Hard to want to open the windows on the 1st floor when someone can break in. No amenities in bathroom, so be prepared for that. Remote for one TV did not really work. Around 3:30am a drunk Native man was yelling loud and cussing outside at his girlfriend. My son had to hear this, too! After 10 min of this, we called the front desk and they had the cops come to deal with it, arresting them. Then they woke up a man who was sleeping in his truck outside near our window, he wasn't a guest and asked to leave. Finally we tried to get some sleep. Complained to the front desk the next morning with no apology. I later wrote a letter to the Mngr and had no response. So...trust me when I say this is NOT the hotel you want to stay in. Spend a few bucks more and stay somewhere else!
“Not the best but not the worst either”
This hotel costs more than other comparable properties and it was only marginally nicer. I'm not sure it was worth the extra money. The hot water wasn't real dependable. If you waited 10 or 15 minutes, it would get hotter. Sometimes it was fine but at times it was too cool to be comfortable. The rooms are not serviced on a daily basis. For a 10 day stay, I was entitled to only one day of housekeeping service. So you'll be making your own bed and taking out your own garbage and so on. You only get small bars of soap that don't last but two or three days. The walls seemed quite thin and I could hear the guy next door coughing all night and I could hear a couple below me arguing in the wee hours of the morning. The noise in the hallway was also quite audible at times. This is not the nicest place in town but it's not the worst either. I expected better than what I got though. On the positive side, there's some good food nearby. The Moose's Tooth serves an excellent pizza. The blackened rockfish pizza is well worth a taste. All the other pizzas were equally wonderful. Ask for the whole wheat crust. Sushi and Sushi is pretty good but the service wasn't the best. The New Cauldron is in the mall a couple blocks away and while not terribly fancy, they serve a really nice salmon dinner at an excellent price. Ninos is close by and the food is real good but seemed overpriced to me. All these restaurants are (5 minutes) walking distance from the hotel.
“Midtown extended stay...excellent rooms with cooking wares.”
Clean, smells nice, and friendly service.
“Decent value, but not perfect.”
The good: midtown Anchorage location; kitchenette with fridge/freezer, microwave, stovetop, and sink; nice floor plan. What could be improved: dirtiness of room; provision of amenities like shampoo and dish soap; eliminate charge for wifi; improve climate control; reduce odor... stale cigarette smoke and/or pet?; better staff front desk so calls for shuttle are responded to efficiently.
“Business traveler”
The hotel hasn't been maitained. I don't think the carpets have ever been cleaned. The staff was excellent.
“Disappointed”
The room was equipped with a kitchen but there were only three sets of dishes and silverwares for 5 of us. There were no detergents, sponge or wash clothes. In the bathroom, there were no shampoos or rinses, either. I would never go back to this hotel, no matter what.
“Was a good experience”
Being new to the area, it was easy to find, and in a good location. The motel had many good amenities. The staff was more than willing to accomodate me when I asked if I could check in early and later I needed to stay and extra 2 nights because of housing arrangements. Many local shopping areas and restaurants were within walking distance. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
