Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Lights in rooms
Location: Great location
Happy to leave. This is not 3.5 stars. Rooms old need painting and modernising. No ventilation.

Great Location & Staff

Posted 16-Oct-2014
Pros: The staff
Cons: Bigger Rooms
Location: Red Light District, plenty of Coffee Shops, Dam Square
Great location - staff were very helpful when we had a problem with the safe and generally very amenable. I've stayed in Amsterdam on several occasions and always found the hotel rooms very basic including the Tulip Inn. However, the room was clean, the bathroom was decent and the bed was comfortable. I stayed in a room on the first floor nearly opposite the Irish Pub and due to previous reviews was quite worried, as I'm a light sleeper. But I wasn't disturbed by the noise at all. I would definitely stay here again.

OK place - but not great.

Posted 12-Oct-2014
Pros: The location and the shower.
Cons: The bed mattress & the lack of fresh air in the room.
Hotel location could not be better - a very short walk to Centraal Station, Dam Square and the RLD. The room had an unpleasant musty smell which hit me as I walked in, but the windows were welded shut so no access to fresh air was possible (and no air conditioning either) Had to endure the poor quality air for my whole stay. The en-suite shower/toilet was clean enough, and was the BEST thing about the room (no issues with water pressure or temperature) - although one of the fresh towels had been draped over the TOILET SEAT on my arrival and was promptly discarded. The bed mattress was not firm AT ALL, and on the first night I almost rolled off on to the floor due to the 'slope' created by previous guests. The TV had around 30 channels but only 2 were in English which is probably not enough for the guest ratio. Room is noisy due to other room doors slamming and outside street noise - but I wasn't in the Dam for a quiet time. I never bothered with breakfast so I can't comment on that, as loads of cafes & restaurants are nearby. Despite my complaints, the place is not too bad and I would stay there again - just a few improvements needed - but no way would I pay a big price to do it.

First impression not good...

Posted 06-Oct-2014
Cons: Decor and furniture.
Toilet was dirty when I arrived. Room very small. Decor and furnishings old and drab. Church bells ringing every 15 minutes and noisy people inside and outside. Bed sheet didn't fit properly and came off during the night and no mattress cover underneath it.
