“I recommend renovations”

This hotel unfortunately reminded me of some sort of movie about criminals traveling cross-country who murder someone in a cheap hotel room. The carpet was green and stained. I wanted to wear my shoes in the room. I think a complete makeover of the rooms is in order. The hotel is in a great location and renovations would be worthwhile. As a business traveler and mom of 2 year old twins who had never left them overnight before, I was looking for a relaxing night of sleep and I did indeed sleep, but a cleaner and refreshed room would have made this experience more enjoyable.

“Great location!”

Great location for an affordable price! Rooms were well kept, ladies at the front desk were nice, I'd definitely stay here again when I visit my sister.

“Great value, Walk to town”

For one night, this place is perfect. Clean, but old. Bring your own hairdryer. Towels and sheets very rough - bring your own if you have sensitive skin! You can walk to UMass campus which is wonderful, and you can walk to the beautiful, quaint town as well. We like staying here because we can go out at night and walk home. Service is very good, but the last time we went the internet wasn't working in our room. I wouldn't stay for a week, but for a night this is a perfect place!

Area recommendations
Go to Amherst and Northampton for quaint shops, lovely town, all day walking. Great restaurants as well.

“Great bargain”

We stayed here for one night for a pre-college visit to Amherst and Hampshire Colleges. The Lodge was convenient, very reasonably priced and there were few others there. The reception staff was cordial and helpful. Highly recommended.

“University Lodge - U Mass”

This is an OK hotel for a short stay when visiting U Mass. Very good access to U Mass, but strictly the basics for a hotel room. No hair dryer in the room is a minus, but it had the other usual things - including coffeemaker and microwave. The green hues of the TV picture weren't all that pleasing however, and I found no way to fix them. Price wise, I would opt for one of the larger chains at a similar, or slightly higher price - better value for the money.

Area recommendations
Amherst and Northampton downtown areas. They have great shopping and Northampton, especially, has great restaurants and night life.

“Will stay again soon, great service and hotel”

I enjoyed the hospitality of the office crew that helped direct me around town and to areas I wanted to visit while staying at the hotel. Everyone was so friendly and concerned with my needs for a great stay. I will definately tell all I know to visit the inn while in Amherst.

Getting around
The Lodge is located near shopping areas and dining areas. Also art museums and many other interesting sites connected to college in the area.

“Basic motel with few amenities in great location”

Basic motel room in excellent location. Clean enough but worn down. Internet only worked outside our room since we were on the end far away from the office - in 20 degree F(-10 C), that was coooold.

“No Frills but clean, budget stay in great location”

I travel quite frequently and have stayed in a wide variety of hotels. The frills are nice, but I appreciate a clean room, courteous, friendly and helpful staff, good location and a low price. The University Lodge is just that. The staff were not snooty, but very nice and helpful. The room is clean and simple. Perfectly located if you need to go to campus. Also walkable to downtown, restaurants, shops, etc. How are they still so inexpensive? I don't get it. If I ever need to go back to Amherst, I'll stay there again.

Area recommendations
Take a stroll downtown for dinner and drinks.

“Chreap lodging with no conveniences near downtown Amherst.”

No WIFI. Needs WIFI. Advantages are (1) cheap and (2) close to downtown Amherst. Also clean.

Area recommendations
Emily Dickinson House. Excellent docent tour.
