“Good 21/2 star definitely not a four star”
I would only recommend this hotel as a 2 to 3 star hotel The furnishings were sparse Beds were rock hard Had to get the receptionist to explain the A/C to me after I had messed with it for quite. I like to feel that I am reasonably competant and intelligent. Basically it is a beach hotel and we were there off season.
“A great holiday location and hotel”
A last minute booking - slightly apprehensive. However we were really impressed. The staff were brillant , rooms excellent and compared to many other 4 star hotels I have stayed at the food was excellent also. Not often I say this but wew will be going back
“Definitely not 4*, but a worthwhile base.”
Let me start by saying we had a wonderful time in Luz, the hotel Luz Bay was comfortable if a little spartan. It isn't 4star, lacking in some default amenities you might associate with this level of comfort - a safe is extra, as is wifi. The english breakfasts consisted of under-cooked bacon, eggs swimming in fat and strangely tasteless sausages. The mushrooms were disgusting. But, cereal and continental breakfast was also laid on and not bad. The toast machine is completely useless though. Coffee is a slightly odd affair, thick and gloopy, but weirdly drinkable. However, in the room you do get a normal sized fridge (though no other self catering amenities) aircon, a pretty pointless and old TV with no dvd and, in our case, 4 beds. The pool and rooms are kept very clean. However, the sun beds by the pool are among the most uncomfortable torture devices known to man! Don't choose a green one or you'll fry or try lying on your front, it'll cripple you. My advice - go to the beach! Plenty of good restaurants in luz, best being Atlantico and the Lime tree (service is a little slow).
“Second time around”
This was our second stay, having first visited in 2005. The whole complex is clean and friendly, with continuous attention to the gardens and pools. The rooms were clean with adequate air conditioning. Dinning at breakfast was well organised with a buffet choice of 'full breakfast' , cereal, breads, buns, cake and preserve, cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit, teas and coffee. Clean and tidy bar with ample selection of refreshing drinks served each evening. Evening meals again of a buffet style enabling simple choice on warm and balmy evenings. Situated a few minutes strole from the beach area and evening restaurants. Met several guests who also had been so relaxed and satisfied that they had also chosen to return. Need to take your own beach towel, or obtain from one of the village market stalls. Clothes horse provided on the ample balcony enables perfect drying space. Set so close to one of the most idealic places on the Algarve, yet to be spoilt by over-commercialism. Can't wait to return.
“A wonderful short break”
Great town!!!
“good quiet holiday”
Lovely clean area very quiet our children would have been bored if they came with us, but a very relaxing stay. Lovely resturants especially the Italian Alloro. Transfer took 21/2 hours and pillows were very lumpy. All in all a lovely trip.
“Exceeded my expectations”
Hotel is like little apartments, everyone has their own external front door and all balconies look into the courtyard/swimming pools area. Our room had a fridge which was useful as Spar is nearby. Reception were very helpful, sorted our trip to a local waterpark which they gave us information on and rang the waterpark's shuttle bus to book us on the coach. They also sorted our return transfer to the airport (this was bought separately at the time of booking the holiday but they rang the company and arranged our pick-up). Only thing was they said the waterpark shuttle bus would take us back whenever we wanted, but upon arrival we learned it was actually a set pick-up time and were there for 6 hours. Food-wise, we only booked B&B but ate at the hotel in the evening 5 nights out of 7 as the food was excellent. I'm a veggie and found there was a good salad bar, fresh and a variety of choices, bread and a veggie hot "side" like pasta/rice/potatoes. Breakfast was also good with a decent selection of fresh fruit and bread and cereal as well as the normal full English/Continental. Pool bar served cocktails/alcohol, soft drinks, hot drinks, lunch-type snacks and ice cream, hotel bar sold similar but no food and stayed open til midnight with two live musical acts when we were there. Really good thing was there was a little kids pool and larger pool one side of the pool bar, and then another large pool on the other side for people without kids or who didn't want the noise.
“Great place to unwind”
Friendly staff, clean and quiet. Excellent breakfast, nice grounds and pools. Local area abounds with great restaurants, beach, store, etc. Price was reasonable and made for a great place to relax and unwind. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
“Nice stay”
This hotel was a great weekend getaway for our family! The rooms were spacious and clean. The pools were clean and enjoyable. The beach was a short and quick walk away. The breakfast buffet was stellar!!
“Lovely Hotel Complex”
Buildings and landscaping are beautiful. Room was very nice with good view of pool area. Hotel is not as close to beach as advertized. It says 150 yds to beach but it is about a 10 min walk.
