Located 15 km (9 miles) southwest of the city centre, Freo (as the locals refer to it) is one of Perth's top attractions. Wander through its impressively restored historic warehouses and prison dating from the convict era, as well as its Edwardian streets and shopping precinct. Good museums, street markets, bustling working docks, energetic nightlife and a great variety of restaurants are other attractions, while in summer the beaches benefit from the 'Fremantle Doctor', a pleasantly cooling breeze.
