Gran Melia Rome

"Five Star By The Vatican"
It was excellent. I booked this long trip to Europe in one night, and did not realize there was a Melia property in Rome when I booked. I have been to 58 countries and flown hundreds of time, so I know good and bad service. I had initially booked four nights at the Best Western Spring House (Avoid at all costs) for the stay in Rome, but ended up switching hotels after two nights. When I saw there was a Melia, I immediately booked the last room available. The rooms were very modern, the staff were extremely polite; (I wish I could recall all names, but Jose and Sergio from the front desk are the two that standout, Jose from check in and check out, and Sergio from a long chat about Italian history after I ran a few miles early in the morning). I had stayed at the The Level, Melia Caribe in August in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. Melia is probably my favorite European hotel and there are about 374 of them worldwide. I would write more, but if one was to stay at a Melia property, they would not need my review to appreciate it.

Pocket Guide: Rome Vatican Melia Hotels International Hotels

The world's smallest country, Vatican City is dominated by St Peter's, Christendom's largest church. Michelangelo's humbling 'Pietà' and his Sistine Chapel ceiling frescos are among the world's greatest works of art. The Aurelio area is named after the ancient Via Aurelia, the main road that connected Rome with Spain, and is convenient for visiting the city's sights.
