The Incident: On the night of Saturday, February 21, the lock on our primary entrance—a beachfront sliding glass door—failed completely. At 12:00 AM, hotel staff spent 90 minutes drilling the lock out of the door. From 1:30 AM on Saturday until our checkout on Tuesday, February 24, our room remained entirely unsecured. The door opened freely from the outside with no functioning locking mechanism. Failure to Remedy: Despite being told the lock would be repaired by Monday, no repairs were ever made. We remained in an unsecured room for three consecutive nights. Furthermore, this occurred during an active military operation and while the US Embassy had issued a "shelter-in-place" advisory for American citizens in the region. The hotel’s inability to provide a locking door during a period of heightened civil unrest is a gross violation of basic safety standards and the "Guest Promise" established by Expedia. It was our first time at a non all inclusive so the daily money spending was something to get used to. There are stores and restaurants within walking distance so we visited those as well.
