Laguna Hotel

6/10 Okay

"It’s a really really dated hotel, the rooms need a total makeover and that’s no exaggeration. However, the pool was lovely and parking was ok, but pretty busy when I came back about 9.30 pm. Location is good convenience shops really close by and restaurants and you can easily walk to the town centre. Be prepared the walls are thin and both times I’ve stayed here it’s noisy. Rooms reasonably clean so overall ok if you don’t mind a 2 star hotel."

"Wasn’t too impressed for a one night stay. When we arrived we were informed it’s £5 per person to use the pool / leisure area!!! This was not mentioned anywhere, I think advertising there’s a pool then charging guests when they arrive is ridiculous. Me and my partner are young and fairly healthy and we struggled with the commute to our room. No lifts, only to certain rooms. The room itself was ok, not suitable for the heat. There was an air conditioner but it didn’t work too well. The television remote was missing so we couldn’t even use it! The lounge area, bar and restaurant were lovely. The staff were nothing but helpful and kind so big thanks to them. The garden was also a really nice place to chill out. I’d say booking a smaller cheaper room isn’t worth it, if you have the money to splurge on a more deluxe room it may make the stay more worthwhile. Great location for the beach, food and gardens."

The Durley Dean Hotel

"We’ve had bad experiences before with twin beds pushed together instead of a proper double bed, so this was especially disappointing. We came to celebrate our 21st anniversary and were allocated two single beds joined together. During the night the beds separated, leaving a gap in the middle, and we were both woken up after falling into it. We both struggled to sleep and ended up with back pain the next morning. We informed the manager in the morning. She apologised and offered Prosecco, which we appreciated, but unfortunately it didn’t really make up for the discomfort and disruption to what was meant to be a special anniversary celebration. We left feeling very disappointed."

"Clean room, sky bar has closed which we didn’t realise ( our fault for not checking ) Breakfast was a disaster, hotel couldn’t cope with the number of people, ran out of fruit and other breakfast items, food items that were there were poor ….. terrible orange juice ….. we gave up and ate breakfast outside the hotel. Staff were helpful and apologetic, but for a major chain that charges premium rates for its rooms the planning was clearly very poor. We wouldn’t stay again."

10/10 Excellent

"Very well maintained and clean and tidy. Very few staff but they were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a good English breakfast with cereals and fresh fruit. It was a pity that there was not dinner as well but being a small hotel it would not be economical to have a chef employed for the small number of guests. We were directed to the excellent 4* Meridian hotel opposite where you can book a table, at your expense of course. Parking was sufficient for off peak times but was assured that extra parking could be made available if necessary. An enjoyable stay."

Carrington House Hotel

8/10 Good

"My telly didn’t work properly, but reception were super helpful, had a man come and reset it, STILL didn’t work, so they swapped it out for a whole new one. Also, the lights didn’t work. Ultimately, lovely, helpful staff, nothing appeared too much, the bed was comfy, and had a restful nights kip. All you really want from a night in a hotel, really."
