"Beautiful old castle"
This was a great hotel...old castle ambience with fully updated amenities! Beautiful room, views and grounds. Wonderful staff. We arrived too late to get a table for dinner in the dining room but we ate in the bar area and LOVED it. Big leather couches, wing back chairs, fireplace! Our room was down a long hallway passed the kitchen and then down a staircase. The hallway we had to walk down needs some freshening up, cleaning and some paint. Looked a little sad and worn. But otherwise a great place. Don't miss this wonderful hotel.

"A hotel in need of some TLC"
I got this hotel for an amazing price but stayed here many years ago - I must say it now looks very tired and the general appearance around the corridors and reception area is rather unkempt and in need of some much needed updating. My stay was great - clean spacious room but even the pool area felt cramped and dated.

"Stately Barn Room trying to be Downton Abbey."
Room is in a stone barn.. One problem, the wifi quit on second day of stay. Had to go to main house to get mail. My husband and I got lost on first day in the woods beyond the garden. Had hard time finding way back. Map given was just too small and the dark was coming in. Otherwise food., staff, and room fantastic.

"Nice hotel on the marina"
The room was clean, comfortable and we looked out onto the marina. Love boats! The problem for us was wifi. We like to be connected. When we got to the hotel on a Saturday, we had wifi in reception but not in our room. We could sit in the bar with our iPads connected to wifi but the wifi did not reach to our room. We told the staff. They contacted the service which reported all systems were functioning correctly. But they were not. Nothing to be done but sit in the bar or reception to get wifi. You would need a car to get into town. Cabs run to and from here, but it would be a long walk.

"Lovely hotel, great location"
The reception is very grand and impressive. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. We were particularly pleased with the knowledge of the area one reception staff member had which she shared with us ensuring we got the most out of our weekend. We had never been to Chester before so this was much appreciated. The room was a tad smaller than I'd hoped but was only a standard so can't be too disappointed. It was very clean and had everything in it we needed. If staying longer than 3 nights however a bigger room would be better. The restaurant and bar were also very pleasing, with wide selection of meals and nice wines. The gardens were pleasant although there were 3 weddings taking place across the 3 nights we stayed and they take up some of the garden area. They also made breakfast quite busy!! We also used the spa facilities which were very impressive. The sauna was out of use but this didn't bother us. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

"Exceptional hotel in good location."
Overall we were very happy with our 2 night break. Breakfast stunning with a huge choice, can't think that anyone would leave hungry in the morning. Evening meal a trifle expensive for what you got. We told the first waitress that we didn't want any bread but were offered rolls by 3 more waiters/waitresses before our meal arrived. Bedroom comfortable, and we made use of the huge fan at night as it was very warm. Bathroom excellent and equipped with everything you could want. Although we were on the fifth floor the lift was fast and efficient. Car park spaces limited and we were lucky someone was leaving when we arrived. Couldn't get near the car charging points during our stay as cars always parked in the bays.

"A lovely hotel, a real treat."
We enjoyed a lovely short break here, lucky with the weather which of course makes a difference. The hotel is beautifully appointed, with a feeling of old-fashioned country-house luxury throughout, and is set in its own attractive grounds that you can wander around. We enjoyed our meals in both restaurants, and though we did not sample the spa treatments, preferring to be out and about, we did go to the pool and jacuzzi one evening, and they were lovely. We had a beautiful, very spacious and comfortable room, and a bathroom which I think was early as big as some bedrooms in other hotels!

"Pleasant stay, average service."
Booked as a stopover for a trip to Cardiff. With a midweek stay the hotel did not appear too busy. Our room decor was tired and dated but functional. Restaurant food was of a good standard but the service lacked attention to detail. Having ordered a jug of water and bottle of wine to go with the meal we not only had to remind them to bring the water out, but the wine was nowhere to be seen by the time we had finished our starters and another reminder was given. Sadly, we were then charged for 2 bottles. The staff were apologetic and quickly rectified the situation.

"Great for a one night stay. "
Check in is late at 3pm, check out by 11. Just parked up and went out for day. Public areas are really nice, our room 108 (3 singles) was a little dated with the worst pillows I've ever used. Breakfast was lovely but needs labels on the milk and juice jugs. The pool area was nice if a little cold but there were far too many chemicals in the water which itself was a little cloudy. Think it's only a 3 star and it easily beats this, I'd give it 4 stars.
