"University residence close to the city centre"
Stayed for three nights so I could go walking in Snowdonia while my wife was on a course at the University. Pros The accommodation is clean, well maintained and furnished to a similar standard as a Premier Inn. Friendly and helpful staff. A comfortable bar area and restaurant on site that served a good buffet breakfast. Parking on site and close to the city and University. The Pontio Centre at the University a short walk away has a good reasonably priced bar, food and entertainment. Cons The double rooms are very small for two people. There is a small wardrobe, desk and a chair with not much space to put bags/clothes if you are staying more than one night. This is university accommodation primarily for courses at the business centre, other guests are there to fill spare capacity and the University has first call on facilities. The bar is billed as for a business group and may be closed to guests for private events. The restaurant may be closed for events and coffee shop is not open weekends. If you don't need to be in the centre of Bangor you will probably find better facilities significantly cheaper just out of town.

Great hotel with stunning views and good facilities. Lovely quiet and elevated position but the downside is accessibility could be a problem for the less able bodied.

"4 Days away."
My wife and I decided at short notice to have a few days away in the Llangollen area. We picked the Bryn Howel. We booked ahead for Sunday dinner as it can be quite busy. It was, a group of 19 were in celebrating an 80th birthday. It was perhaps a bit noisy but, youre only 80 once. The food was excellent. We also had an evening meal on 2 nights and they were good as well. Breakfast was good too, although perhaps a menu would have helped with choice. No need for it to be a guessing game if you want other than full English. In line with a few other reviews, we found the hotel to be a bit dated. Bit of curled wallpaper here and there and some knocks and scratches. And some quite dark areas with all the oak panelling which was no doubt popular when the main building was built a few hundred years ago. Our room was a bit small but adequate. But it was warm. Bryn Howel is ideally situated between Llangollen and Trevor, with the Llangollen canal running right past the hotel to the world heritage site of Pontcysylithe and Telford's aquaduct. We would go back again, probably in summer time so we can explore on foot the canal each way. The hotel staff were very good, no problems at all. Overall Btyn Howel is a nice place, it just wants a bit of extra TLC.

"Good value"
I got an excellent deal which included a very good breakfast each day. The room had be recently renovated and the bathroom was modern. Hotel staff very friendly and eager to help. The only niggle for me was that once I'd checked in I had to go back outside to get to my room. I was lucky as it was hot and sunny when I visited in October.

"One night stay in February 2017 - Family Room."
We paid for a family room (2 adults, 2 children) and stayed just one night. We were allocated a room on the third floor with a partial sea view. The room was spacious, clean and well heated. The room could be ventilated by opening a French style window that revealed a small balcony. There was an en-suite bathroom that has perhaps seen better days but it was adequate and I am not going to gripe about a few minor plumbing issues as our stay was not diminished significantly in any way. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. The hotel struggles to hold on to any semblance of the grandeur that it must have held in its heyday but there does seem to be an attempt to maintain the hotel to a reasonable standard. In the evening we went down to the ballroom to watch the cabaret style entertainment and to enjoy a few drinks. We enjoyed the show and were pleased that we went. We slept well. The beds were firm but comfortable. Breakfast was buffet style and was generally alright but could have been better. Once again I am not going to complain too much but if you prefer your English breakfast items grilled and not deep-fried you had best avoid the breakfast at this hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and found it to be better than we had expected after reading previous reviews. We all agreed that we would stay again maybe for a bit longer next time but we would give the breakfast a miss.

"Great views over the sea"
A lovely hotel recently refurbished to a high standard. Staff were great, room was great, location was great. Bath a bit small for a big bloke and so was the breakfast... But it tasted very nice!
