Madeira Island Hotel Guide. Pestana Group Hotels in Madeira Island, Portugal

Location of the Pestana Palms is right on the coast with direct access to the sea. We had a one bed apartment which was very spacious. The kitchen facilities were minimal (2 ring stove, fridge and sink). The inclusive breakfast was superb - good quality food and a very good selection. The pool area was well maintained as were the gardens. The reception staff all spoke a very high standard of English.

Nice hotel, nice pools, clean and tidy, staff generally very helpful and polite, breakfast good, coffee possibly the worst I have ever tasted. Good for couples, kids -everyone. Air-con did not work for the first week of our stay and had no back up fans (I had to supply my room number before they said no to the fan, I assume this was because I was not in a superior room!). They reserved 500euros on my card and although they said it had been cancelled on a few occasions, it was not (leaving me with limited funds) so they get a low mark because of this. They charge you 5euros a day for parking which I think is a bit cheeky. Entertainment was similar to what you find at hotels in Bournemouth!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Although a little out of town the complimentary bus service was very good for getting around. Hotel on promenade so good for walking along the coast to either Funchal or the next town along (can't remember name but the Poncha was good).

We had a nice stay in the hotel. We arrived earlier after a long flight. We asked if we can check in sooner. They said that our rooms were not ready. They offered to take our luggage. Unfortunately my jewelry was stolen. I thought that I left it at home, but know after I came back I don't have it. Positive- nice location and swimming pools. Good breakfast. Negative- hotel reception not friendly at all. We purchased a very expensive room. The room was huge but view was ugly ( we look at the construction). I asked them about this and they told me that they don't have rooms with an ocean view available. Not true. I have been in one empty room the same size just with a stunning view.

We chose this hotel because of its good value and location - its close to Funchal centre and also close to the bars and restaurants of the hotel district. There is also a bus stop outside the hotel which goes to many parts of the island. The hotel was quiet at night with comfortable beds - we slept well.

The hotel is on a deep slop into centre easy walking down,bus great bus Service from the centre. Nice bar/ restaurants facing the hotel and a must for food and drinks the beer house on the marina also the Ritzs in the centre. Maderia is very clean and the people great, the old town is small lanes with good bars and restaurants and at the weekend most have great jazz singers.

Friendly welcome, room clean, sea views, helpful staff, excellent food.
