"Fun Capsule Hotel Big Enough for American"
We wanted to try out a capsule hotel experience and chose 9 Hours Hotel in Kyoto for that experience.
Pros - Affordable, easy check in, staff had great English skills, clean and organized, large luggage locker, easy place to store luggage while out and about, cool space like look to the hotel, quiet sleeping area, and restaurants and shopping close by, and a fun experience.
Cons - Traveling as a family, it was hard to congregate since women and me sleep separately. The lounges were ok, but not super comfortable. There was only 1 electrical outlet for each pod so charring multiple devices was difficult. The pods can get warm at night (they are a large plastic tube) and there is no individual air control in the pods. My solution was to leave the privacy screen at my feet open to increase air circulation. The location is not super optimal. From the Kyoto station you take 2 subway lines at a cost of $4 one way. With luggage, depending on time of day, that can be challenging.
Like many hotels, there is a mandatory 10AM check out, so you are in and out quick. If you stay more than one day in Kyoto, this would not be a great place to relax since given the set up and the need to vacate at 10AM for a chunk of the day.
I highly recommend this experience at least once. But Kyoto is a large place to explore and I found my last trip a bit more enjoyable as I had a 2 night stay in a western hotel and we could retire to the hotel during the day to recharge.
