Ended up here as booked late but was very happy. Room ( just one traveller) was fine. Cleaning done meant you could see your face in the room as anything shiny was polished up. Full linen change every day. Very helpful staff and fantastic food (Japanese) I took/ended up with a meal option so got a 9 course meal of the highest quality every night. Superb. Close to a station ( is a few stops out of town as the only downside) and a major Shrine and the famous monkeys all in walking distance from the station ( Hotel runs a shuttle to the station)
I've previously stated near Kyoto Station on recent visits to Kyoto but always liked the area around Arashiyama so I decided to stay there this time. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel as some of the other reviews weren't too good. It's not the most convenient location to either rail stations but if you like strolling through the bamboo forest, along the river or on the temple grounds it can't be beat, especially at the price. Staff was helpful getting me a taxi on a rainy day and spoke enough English for my needs. The room was large by Japan standards, more like a western style motel. I would definitely return.
Brilliant hotel in a fantastic space with mountains to the north and a great river near by with plenty of small business to keep busy with. The room it's self was beautifully spacious with chic decor, English speaking staff (and tv) restaurants looked lovely but have other plans. Didn't seem to be too busy but very large hotel with spa and work out options.
Will be looking for rooms again
Located along the Hozu River (Katsura River) in one of Japans most beautiful cities, the Suiran, Kyoto is minutes from some …More
This was our first time to visit Kyoto - Arashiyama. After arrived in Kyoto Station, we took taxi to go over to the hotel, approx. US $40. The hotel is nice and clean. We really enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. We also enjoyed walking around the area. Nice restaurants around. After we checked out the hotel, we took 15-20 minutes to walk over to the JR Station and took the train back to Kyoto Station.
