Musicians sit in huge floats that are pushed/dragged around town in Kyoto while the musicians play their flutes. There are two types of floats in The Gion Matsuri Parade, Yama and Hoko. There are 23 Yama and 10 Hoko. The Hoko floats can be up to 25 meters tall and weigh up to 12 tons. It was super big for Japan standards, the amenities were fantastic, and it seemed very luxurious for the reasonable price. There’s laundry and a spa, Family Mart is right beside the hotel, and it’s in a wonderful location. The vibes were great, the check in/check out procedures were easy and smooth, and it was an overall amazing experience. We’ll absolutely be staying here on our next visit!
