We liked the colors and all of the outdoor spaces filled with plants and flowers. We liked the staff, the restaurant and the food. The rustic furniture in these spaces was a nice visual touch as well although some probably shouldn't be used for actual seating. We did not like our room. We paid for a room with a view which did have a little terrace but it looked out over the roof and onto a loud and busy street. You could also see the machinery on the rooftop and there were workers who climbed over the railing near our room daily to access these machines (checking and/or fixing them - we were not sure). We did not have hot water our first day and it was hit or miss after that. There was no TV which is actually ok but there's also no phone in the room, no hair dryer, iron or other basic essentials. Also, the outlet near the bathroom sink was a little blackened which was a worry. There was also a lot of peeling paint around the property including in our room. While Todos Santos is small, quiet and pleasant art town, we feel this property is totally over rated. Considering they only have 11 rooms, it seems it would be easy to put some effort and amenities into each one so they truly look and feel special. With all of the other hotel options close by, we would absolutely not stay at this property again.

Needs a big make up
This hotel indeed lives off legend since rooms are old and not maintained doors and window dont open bathroom falling apart and no phone in room. The pool was icy cold. The common areas are cheap and rather decrepit. AC leaking creating puddles in room. One good thing was breakfast (expensive and not included but good). Location good and nearby parking handy but unsupervised at night.

Hotel California
Hotel was centrally located and nicely decorated in traditional Mexican style. Food in the restaurant was excelent with good service. Waiters all spoke great English. Prices were a bit high compared to other restaurants in Todo Santos. Rooms are noisy due to location over the main town street. However if you went to Hotel California for peace and serenity you went for the wrong reasons.

Charming hotel..but be ready for some noise
The hotel is very conveniently located at the center of town. It is easy to walk to various restaurants and and boutiques in the area. The hotel is extremely charming, with colourful and eclectic decor and vibrant artwork. The pool was great, as we spent many hours each day there. Although small, the pool area provided a great place to relax. As we had our newborn son with us, we weren't always out in the town. The hotel had enough quiet areas for us to relax and read while our son slept in his stroller. I also have to thank the wonderful front desk staff - both Luis and Hugo were extremely helpful. Hugo also helping me deal with issues with the car rental company, so thank you to them both. However, the only complaint was the lack of soundproofing on the windows. Street noise easily comes through, especially during the time we visited, which coincided with 4 days of Day of the Dead festivities. Additionally, there was plumbing work going on behind our room, which was audible, until 12:30 am. Luckily, my wife used her phone app for some white noise. Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but we had our son with us, and we didn't want his sleep disturbed. But the owner, Debbie, was very gracious and apologetic when we told her the issues the next day.

Stay Away
After a long flight and drive, we arrived to hotel, booked months in advance. Shown to our room, directly over a generator. Asked to be moved, and were shown to a second room. Here, the manager told us that the room had no running water. In fact, the entire hotel was without running water. We asked if he could book us into either the Todos Santos Inn, or Guaycara - both similiarly priced and nearby. He said he would, and made the call for us. Not a Spanish speaker, I didn't know what he said, but he handed me directions, and off we went. Turns out, he booked us at Hotel Casa Tota and agreed to pay for our 3 night stay. Well, lucky Hotel California got a total money earner on us. The one night price that I paid for Hotel CA was twice what the nightly rate was at Hotel Casa Tota. Requested to be reimbursed, and both Expedia and Hotel California denied the request. I didn't want the money back for the other hotel, we stayed there, but shame on Hotel CA for ripping me off. They made a hundred and twenty bucks nightly on me for 3 nights and for that, SHAME SHAME SHAME

Mythical place, but very noisy street, and an overall low customer-perceived value. Do recommend to have a drink, but the night isn't worth the price.

Beautiful hotel in Todo Santos
We loved staying here. Gorgeous art and furniture all around. Magical setting! In town there are many jewelry and crafts shops. There's a small wine bodega in town that was very fun with a great small Mexican restaurant next-door with the best chili rellenos ever! There's an old Spanish mission. Great restaurants within walking distance. The food at the hotel was also impressive. Loved the nachos. Can't wait to go back.

This was our first stay at the Hotel California, yet it was our 10th time to visit Todos Santos. The town has had major construction and road improvements. The room was very quiet and clean. A few minor paint issues were noted in the bathroom, but we enjoyed our visit!

We loved the hotel. It was funky and charming at the same time. Our room was great and liked that there was no TV or phone. The swimming pool and outdoor gathering spaces were beautiful. What a lovely place to celebrate Valentines Day with your spouse. The music was from our era & the decor was so suited to the reputation of Hotel California. Were many little alcoves where you could enjoy some quiet time other than in your room. The hotel staff were attentive & fun to visit with. Todo Santos was also charming.

Ambiance is so serene and perfect.
Ten years ago, I visited Todos Santos with friends for a few hours, we stopped into the bar to have a drink then went on to explore the town and ocean - but this place always stuck with me and I have been wanting to stay there. The opportunity finally arose to return to the Baja Peninsula and I told my husband we have to stay there at least one night. Well after that one night, I wanted to cancel the rest of our trip to LaPaz. I love this environment inside and out! Next visit, I will be staying only there. Kimberly

Interesting place, eccentric and lively.
We were excited to see and stay at this legendary hotel. It is beautifully decorated and has an interesting lay-out, with tunnels and stairs leading to patios or rooms. It seems to be the center of town with lots of visitors and shopping nearby, so a bit noisy. If you are looking for a quiet stay or traditional hotel, this is not for you. The food in the restaurant was good, service lacking and little pricey. Same goes for the store. Front desk was friendly, room was clean and nice. I agree it is haunted, because we had an experience with that. It was a fun stopover to La Paz.

Enjoyed my stay
I had spent a few days in La Paz and decided to do my last night at the Hotel California mostly because of the name. I was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful older hotel with a very comfortable room, friendly people and a terrific breakfast the next morning. My room didn't have a TV, which was actually nice once I got used to the idea, so I don't take points off for that. The hotel has been around far longer than the song, so don't be confused. There were no mirrors on the ceilings, and no pink champagne on ice. I did check out in the morning, and I was able to leave in plenty of time to catch my flight out of San Juan Del Cabo.

Livin' it up at the Hotel California
We loved our stay at the Hotel California! Historic building, comfortable rooms, great restaurant and bar, and friendly and helpful staff. This hotel won't be for everyone - you'll find eclectic decor and local artwork, but the rooms don't have phones, mini-fridges, or amenities that one might expect from the resorts of Cabo. Todos Santos is a small artsy town that is set back from most of the beaches. There isn't too much night life in town, so things shut down around 9 or 10pm. There are some wonderful local galleries and restaurants that are not to be missed. As some of the other reviewers mention, the town has torn up all of their roads, but I can't blame the Hotel California for that.

Definitely NO bang for your buck
Disappointing. To begin with, the streets of Todos Santos are undergoing construction underground cables are being put in. This is to last until August. The street under our room was all torn up, busy with noisy machinery; the air was thick with dust and sewage smells. I wish we had been informed that we would be disturbed by such activity or at least that an acknowledgment would have been made. Offer a drink on the house, if nothing else! Instead, we ended up feeling let down in numerous ways and ripped off whenever possible. The front desk clerks were complacent and unhelpful. The room was dull, with no thought put into its decor. The window that did not look out on to the dusty street faced a fire hydrant on a wall. For the rate we paid, I would have expected more. There was not even remotely a private patio as stated in the booking! There was also not a single hook anywhere to hang a towel, nor a place to put your soap or shampoo. Shouldn't that be common sense? As for the food service, be alerted that the menu prices do not have the IVA tax included (we did not encounter this anywhere else)—an unwelcome bit of news when the bill arrives with an extra 16% on top of the already inflated prices. We also felt ripped off by the exchange rate offered —13 pesos to the dollar. Elsewhere it was 14 or 14.5. It seems the hotel is trying to get the most out of its guests while cutting corners themselves, and it left us with a bad taste.

High expectation, low service
There was no ocean view, it was actually a construction view that we woke up to. A 40 minute drive from Cabo San Lucas turned into 4 and half hours because of a road block, cows, and windy dark highway. When we got there, the restaurant had closed early and we wandered the streets looking for something to eat for dinner. We paid a lot for only 10 hours!

The stay wa really quite unique, such artistic flare at the lication and vibrant colors that boosted the general feel overall. Decor was pleasant eye candie thro and through. It's an older place, if your looking for precise modern details...skip it; if your looking for a unique, artsy kinda relaxing and overall chill location, check it out. Nice Hotel but Avoid Todos Santos
The hotel did not disappoint, and we were very glad we chose to stay here since it was really the only interesting thing in Todos Santos. The artwork was interesting, the room beautiful, and the staff friendly enough. The town however, was not very impressive. Out of the places we visited: San Jose del Cabo, Los Barriles, and La Paz, it was the most expensive and the least scenic or friendly. The gift shop prices were outlandish, and the owners were not interested at all in bargaining, and seemed almost offended at the attempt, despite the fact that the prices were not marked and they just make them up out of thin air. We entered a restaurant in town, and menus were thrown down on the table, along with a cold glare. The whole town just seemed to have a weird vibe that we weren't welcome. I'd recommend making Todos Santos a brief stop if driving from Cabo to La Paz, but if you do stay in the town, I'd highly recommend this hotel.

Rebuilding after the hurricane
We stayed at Hotel California two years ago and we had a wonderful time. I remember the pool area being magical, with lots of trees and plants giving shade, a sense of seclusion, and intimacy. Now all the plants are gone due to the hurricane Odile. The staff is slowly cleaning up, replanting and trying to bring back the charm. As for the hotel itself, the rooms are simple and clean; some of them face the main road in Todos Santos and it gets noisy very early. I would make it a stop for 1-2 nights.

Great building, great service, icky pool.
Hotel California was a pretty hotel: colorful lobby, lots of interesting art and a well established bar and restaurant attached. Check in was easy, service was great. Our room (#11) was perfect for two friends who want separate beds. A/C worked well, great beds, and private balcony was nice enough. The worst part of this hotel was the pool. It was murky, green, and smelled like grease. It wasn't so bad on our first day and, as it was unbearably hot in Todos Santos during our trip, we tried our best to 'get over it' and use it to cool off. The next day, the pool looked even worse. Another arriving hotel guest came over to assess the pool and confirmed our nagging instinct that it probably wasn't a good idea to use it. Did I mention how unbearably hot it was? (We were desperate.) We considered mentioning it to front desk but were intimidated by the owner who staffed the front desk in the afternoons. The guy who checked us in was awesome; she, however, was gruff, grumpy, and snarky. We came to her with other questions in previous days and were surprised at how negative her attitude was. We sensed that we wouldn't get much resolve with her about the pool if we asked, so just left and found another pool to spend time at. Besides the pool, the hotel is great.

The Hotel California in Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico is terrific. Every single employee, manager and even the owner were awesome. The only exception was the bartender on a Sunday night. He clearly was not happy and didn't want to be there. But the hotel itself is clean and quiet. The small pool was refreshing after a hike to the beach. The restaurant is first class. The room and all amenities were high quality. I definitely recommend this hotel!

This place is amazing. If the Eagles song really is based on this hotel, I agree with the lyric about how you can never leave. And it's because you will never want to! The details in the hotel are fantastic. It is filled with local, regional, and national art, vibrant colors, and a peaceful vibe. The pool is like an oasis, surrounded by Palm trees and beautiful flowers. I love the potted plants and beautiful planters all over the property. We had room #1 with a king sized bed and private patio and it was comfortable, clean, and cozy. The food at the restaurant was fantastic and the staff very friendly and helpful. We live in Cabo and plan to come at least once a month. This is a very special place, especially at night when the hotel is filled with hand-lit candles and beautiful lighting.

Loved the hotel….however, when I made my reservations via Hotel.com I paid in full $650+. Made these reservations months ago. The hotel did not think I was paid in full and charged another $400. With the language problem there was nothing I could do but pay the extra. I am not happy with Hotel.com. I could not call for help…I was out of the country..
