"The long and winding road ... leads me ... ?"
Arrived a half hour after appointed check-in time. Room not ready. Offered a tray of tea, for two, in a shabby chic Morning Room with holes in the chair upholstery. Shown to our double room, "Edda", in an annexe across a courtyard. No cover when wet, we discovered on the way to breakfast next morning. Room spacious, but furnished in a gloomy mix of reds and browns with no matching furniture and no settee. Again, shabby chic, with creaking wardrobe doors, cramped wardrobe access beside the bed, a hideous crushed velvet maroon bed cover that had seen better days, a Fifties occasional table and what looked like an IKEA desk. Bathroom large but with mustard-coloured brick-pattern tiles. Lavatory overlooked with no frosted glass, requiring drawn blinds and the lights on even in daylight - so much for Eco-friendliness. Dinner food - good quality but over-priced set menu left us £100 down after a modest meal and two glasses of the cheaper wine. Similar fare at a nearby country house hotel (The Conrah) saved us over £40 the next evening - recommended and booked by the Nanteos staff, to be fair. Breakfast, in the ancient kitchen, was spoiled by the noisy clatter of chairs on stone floors and the badly stained cream-coloured seat-pads. Food was no better than standard fare for the "full English" (Welsh), breakfast, but the portions were small. Some of the more exotic egg dishes were a welcome offering and well presented. Our newspaper failed to appear on day one.Staff were charming

"Very friendly and accommodating staff."
Our stay was for 2 nights. We had delicious evening meals, beautifully presented. The staff were very accommodating, very kindly getting up early to make us a cooked breakfast for 6:30am! We would certainly recommend this friendly hotel which is situated in a very quiet location. Thank you.

"Excellent choice."
Extremely good choice. Roger and Kate were lovely. Loved the gold 'peacock' room sited on the corner of the house with lovely view of countryside at front and garden view of chickens and rabbits to the side. One of the most comfortable beds we've slept in away from home, really quiet too. Breakfast was really good and Roger's homemade 'jamalade' was rather yummy................and he was happy to share the recipe.

"Comfortable hotel with decent facilities"
Thoughtfully refurbished room with adequate light, comfortable bed and decent facilities but bath, which has the shower set over it is too high so it is a bit difficult to step out of it onto the floor which is significantly lower. Though hotel tried to give me a quiet room, the music from the function rooms does reach the bedrooms at the front of the hotel. Several extremely helpful staff on front desk & housekeeping but a couple of restaurant staff let down the otherwise high standard: e.g. I did not expect to have to get up and go to the bar area to order my evening meal when the waitress who had left me the menu failed to return to take my order. There was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time and 3 waitimg staff were chatting in the bar area around the corner.

"Reasonable hotel for a short stay in Swansea"
The hotel is located near the city centre so shops, restaurants and transport is in easy reach. The hotel also provided free parking which was welcomed. The hotel has a small gym, a large swimming pool (compared to other hotels I've stayed at) and a sauna room. The rooms were clean but a bit cramped. What let this hotel down was that I had booked online specifying 2 adults and 1 child and expected a suitable (family) room. Unfortunately we were given on arrival was a room with 2 single beds and a folding bed (charged extra) for my child. Needles to say the folding bed was uncomfortable.

It was a lovely hotel. The staff were friendly, the food was good and I loved the room. I couldn't have asked for more considering the price.

    Pocket Guide: South Wales

    Hotels @ South Wales

From top city hotels in Cardiff to rural hostels, welcoming bed and breakfasts and self-catering properties, the South Wales region offers almost infinite inspiration for those looking for places to stay.

If you’re a city lover, you can choose hotels in Cardiff with easy access to its major sights, such as the Wales Millennium Centre, not to mention its buzzing shops, restaurants and other entertainments.

Or you could consider accommodation in the market towns, seaside resorts, villages and idyllic countryside that personify South Wales. From cosy B&Bs and guesthouses in the Brecon Beacons National Park and Glamorgan Heritage Coast, to boutique townhouses and country pubs with rooms in the Wye Valley and South Wales Valleys, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

South Wales Hotels for Shopping, Dining and Nightlife

If you want to be in the thick of things, Cardiff is your place. You can choose slick international hotels and historic hotels that are handy for landmarks such as Cardiff Castle, as well as shops, restaurants, theatres and bars, and also for the waterfront at Cardiff Bay, with its eateries, boat trips and other attractions.

Alternatively, you may fancy a modern budget hotel or comfortable B&B in Cardiff centre or on the outskirts of the city, thus combining affordability with convenient access to the city’s main food, cultural and retail districts. From elegant bed and breakfasts to bunkhouses and rental apartments, there’s a great range on offer.

South Wales Hotels for Sightseeing and the Outdoors

Sightseers and explorers might want to opt for the luxury hotels, boutique lodgings and country retreats that pepper the Wye Valley. If you want to be near the sea, there’s also a huge range of B&Bs and country inns around the seaside towns of Glamorgan’s Heritage Coast — many a stone’s throw from its beaches.

    Business Hotels in South Wales

If you’re in South Wales on business, it’s easy to find the perfect base. Cardiff boasts numerous first class hotels with business amenities, plus modern budget hotels and bed and breakfasts in abundance.

South Wales has country hotels ideal for corporate events, too: the many manor house hotels and resort hotels in the South Wales Valleys and Wye Valley often offer meeting rooms, spas and golf courses.

    Hotels Near Cardiff Airport

If you’re flying to Cardiff Airport to visit South Wales, you’ll find plenty of convenient hotels and lodgings nearby. You can break your journey at contemporary budget hotels close to the terminal or the welcoming B&Bs, working farmhouses with rooms or traditional guesthouses nearby — there’s something to suit all tastes.
