Hotel was nice, taste wouldn't be for everyone as it is a bit quirky and quite dark in general.
Staff very helpful and happy.
Car parking seemed expensive 28 euro/day.
Breakfast was limited with little cooked options. Shame as the restaurant is nice for dinner but a little over priced.
stayed with a group of friends for a football weekend,(hotel is just round the corner from St Pauli FC) and only a 3 min walk to St Pauli underground. The single room i sayed in was fine albeit the bathroom was looking a bit tired (but it was clean). Best thing was breakfast in the morning as you had a varied choice incl cereals, yoghurts, bread rolls and cold meats, jam etc & it was good place to meet up with everyone in our group before we all headed out for the day. The hotel also had a nice coffee lounge by reception but this was spoilt by the smokiness of the room. However, with the Hotels location, cleanliness and & value for money, I thought it was an excellent choice for a budget hotel in the centre of ' the happening part of town'.
I traveled to Hamburg as my second stop on my vacation. Check-in was very efficient and quick. My room was very nice, and had a beautiful view. The bathroom was tiled throughout, and it seemed it had heated floors which is always nice. I think I will look at whether a hotel room I choice has a bathtub/shower or just a stand-up shower for the room selection. At 6'4, it's uncomfortable to try and take a shower in a confined space of normally 2'x2' (trying to avoid flooding the floor) and not having to bend or stoop to take the shower. In addition, tubs pose the issue of slipping, The shower design at the Empire was so good, I want it for my house!!! I would definitely stay here again!
Hamburg's infamous red-light district, St Pauli is sliced down the middle by the notorious Reeperbahn, and has the city's best music venues and theatres. Prostitutes stand in shop windows on the men-only Herbertstrasse and the bars never close. Locals escape the scene by hitting the cafés in the Schanzenviertel, one kilometre away, while ferries and sightseeing tours leave from the docks of Landungsbrücken.
