The county of Wiltshire is rapidly becoming one of the United Kingdom's premier holiday destinations. Not only does it offer some of the country's most spectacular countryside and interesting towns, but it also hosts a number of Britain's most enchanting tourist attractions. Longleat Safari and Adventure Park is a unique and fascinating place, great for all the family. With plenty of excellent hotels in the surrounding area, it's an obvious choice for an exciting day out during your time in Wiltshire.
An Iconic Attraction
When Longleat Safari Park first opened its gates to the public in 1966, it was seen a truly pioneering attraction. At the time, the attraction was the only drive-through safari park outside of Africa. Having inspired numerous copycat attractions all over the world, Longleat remains the first and most iconic attraction of its kind.
When we think of Longleat, it's lions that spring to mind. In truth, though, the site is home to a huge variety of creatures, equally exotic and exciting. With more than 500 animals on the 9,000 acre site, there's plenty to explore.
Highlights at the Safari and Adventure Park include the African Village (home to giraffes and zebras), the Monkey Jungle and the famous Lion County. There's even a short boat trip available. Jungle Cruise gets visitors up close and personal with some fabulous aquatic creatures such as sea lions and hippos.
An Exquisite Estate
It might be hard to pull the kids away from the friendly critters around the Safari Park, but there's a good deal for to be seen across the Longleat estate. Longleat is actually centred on a stunning Elizabethan mansion. Elsewhere on the grounds, visitors will find extensive landscaped gardens and even a colossal maze.
