- Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities
Following the relaxing of COVID 19 restrictions we were undoubtedly similar to a lot of people, keen to escape and experience a small piece of luxury at a five star hotel. We chose the Macdonald Bath Spa hotel, booking two rooms, a double and a twin. We expected the spa to be closed, but were looking forward to dining at the hotel. Upon arrival the receptionist informed us they were not aware of our room requirements, however, kind attempts were made to overcome the issue. We settled for two twin rooms in order to be close to the children. The double room was literally the other side of the hotel. We called the hotel whilst in Bath in order to reserve a table for dinner. We were informed that the restaurant was open, and that it was busy, however, they booked us in at 7pm. It was whilst attempting to dine, that we truly became aware of the ‘basic’ state of the hotel, and at how unprepared they were to cater for their guests. The restaurant is in fact closed. Guests are not informed about this. You are ‘expected’ to eat outside, in the lounge on a couple of small side tables or low coffee tables!! The food took forever to arrive and when it did the bare table had not even been laid. My complaint resulted in us being offered a large side table off a corridor! Our ‘escape’ to experience a small taste of luxury had been ruined by what appears to be ‘a grab the money and run business’. I would advise you to not stay at the hotel at this stage.
