Top Hotel Areas in Hollywood Boulevard: As the shiny tourist hub of Tinseltown, Hollywood Boulevard is a must for star-spotters and movie buffs. While this single street stretches for around four miles (7km) in its entirety, it's the 'Walk of Fame' mile in the middle – between La Brea Avenue and Gower Street – that has the fun movie-themed attractions that Hollywood is famous for.
You'll find a good smattering of hotels along the strip, with budget hostels and motels mixed in with many mid-priced options and a couple of high-end hotels. The best choice of cheap hotels near Hollywood Boulevard can be found at the western end.
If you're travelling on a budget, the Hollywood and Highland Hotel and Hostel offers cheap beds in a prime position opposite the Hollywood and Highland Center – the strip's biggest landmark and main shopping and entertainment zone. Expect to share a room in basic dorm accommodation. If you'd prefer a cheap hotel in Hollywood Boulevard with a little more privacy, consider the Hollywood 7 Star Motel, just around the corner on N. La Brea Avenue. It's a basic base but it's close to the action, and is also one of the hotels with parking in Hollywood Boulevard.
As you move east along the boulevard towards Thai Town, the attractions get smaller and more spaced out, and the shiny shopping malls are replaced with little souvenir shops. Here you'll find a couple of good value apartment hotels near Hollywood Boulevard, including the bright and modern Ginosi Hudson Apartel.
The first thing many people do when they arrive in Hollywood is take a picture of the iconic white sign. It's up the Hollywood Hills north of Hollywood Boulevard, and the best place to see it from the strip is Hollywood and Highland corner. You'll find a cluster of three- and four-star hotels near the Hollywood and Highland Center, which really is the heart of the Hollywood Boulevard action. Most of them are on the surrounding streets – not on the boulevard itself.
As well as a huge amount of shops and restaurants, the Hollywood and Highland Center is also where you'll find top attractions including the Dolby Theatre, the TCL Chinese Theatre (famous for the cement handprints and footprints of some of Hollywood's biggest stars), and the Madame Tussauds Waxwork Museum.
Just after Hollywood and Highland corner comes a line-up of museums including Ripley's Believe It or Not, the Guinness World Records Museum, the Hollywood Museum and the Hollywood Wax Museum. There are a couple of hotels near the Hollywood Wax Museum, around the corner on N. McCadden Place.
A stay in Hollywood is ideal for couples who want to shop, visit the museums, stay out late in the bars and clubs and, of course, see a film or a show in an iconic theatre.
If you want to splash out on a romantic, luxurious stay in a historic hotel on Hollywood Boulevard, consider a big name like the four-star Hollywood Roosevelt. This hotel is among the iconic properties in the Hollywood and Highland area, with gorgeous décor, a pool (with artwork by David Hockney) and A-list names in its guestbook, including Marilyn Monroe, Charlie Chaplin and Clark Gable.
If you're happy to stay a little further along the strip, the W Hollywood is another example of the few luxury hotels on Hollywood Boulevard. Alternatively, the Redbury @ Hollywood and Vine is a beautiful boutique hotel just off the boulevard, around the corner from the W but with a more 'Old Hollywood' vibe. Both are to the east of the central attractions, towards Thai Town, which is where the locals love to eat and ideal if you fancy a break from the neon-lit chain restaurants.
If you like lots of fun things to do on your doorstep, look for a hotel near the museums on Hollywood Boulevard for a central location on the strip.
Of course, the lovely LA weather means that hotels with a pool in Hollywood Boulevard are always popular. The four-star Loews Hollywood Hotel in central Hollywood and Highland has a rooftop pool and great views of the Hollywood Hills one way and Hollywood Boulevard another.
Despite Hollywood's reputation as star-central, you'll find that most of the hotels near Hollywood Boulevard are in the mid-priced range. That goes for both hotels and self-catering accommodation, with a few aparthotels around Hollywood Boulevard. If you want a wide choice of luxury accommodation, consider the opulent four- and five-star hotels in Beverly Hills instead. Or if you want to browse the full range all over the city, check out our full selection of Los Angeles hotels.
