"Gorgeous hotel, superb value."
My daughter and I chose this location for a visit to Florence, as we only had a few days in Tuscany and wanted a taste of the countryside as well as the city. If you're on foot, access to the town (Grassina) is a 35-45 minute bus ride from Florence, then a 1 1/2 km walk uphill from the town square -- easy if you're a good walker, but challenging with luggage! If you're not a good walker and are not renting a car, you might want to take a cab from Florence, which might cost from 30-50 euros, depending on airport vs train station, traffic, and the honesty of the driver!
That said, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and the manager was very kind and as helpful as he could be with his limited English. The buildings and gardens were immaculate and completely authentic, there were tables and chairs everywhere for outdoor meals or relaxing with a glass of wine, and wonderful views in every direction. If you like luxury travel, the setting, buildings and gardens would live up to your expectations, though you might find the kitchen and furnishings a little simple for your taste. It was perfect for ours. Breakfast fixings were only Melba toast, jam and Nutella, but they also provided coffee, tea, and olive oil, and it's easy to get more supplies in Grassina or Florence. I would love to come back for at least a week, rent a car, and use this place as a home base for day trips to Pisa, Siena, etc.
